So i just got a new custom shop alpine white g-400 and right away i wanted to swap to a full pickguard...so after browsing around the net for a bit and checking here i really couldn't find anything other than a few other people interested in the same thing...i used to make pickguards for my buddy who had a ton of shortscale fenders...so i figure i will just make my own full pickguard for the g-400...i have a gibson sg standard so i will be using it as my template...some mods will have to be done to it though because just by eyeballing it you can see that there seems to be a difference in the distance between pickups and placement of the bridge...but i guess what im getting it is would any of you guys be interested in full pickguards? I was thinking bout making some and maybe putting up on ebay or something along those lines...

you may be right I was just looking closer and the pickups are in slightly diffrent places maby you could get a hold of a g-310 pickguard they look close but you are probly right that makeing one would be easyer if you want to keep the pickups in the same location. you may be able to track down a large pickguard at a store and see if it fits. there is a cheep one on ebay

it looks realy close tho

The Epi's body is a bit different and if you try to fit a gibson pickguard on an Epi, it will cover the 3way switch and the holes for the bridge & tailpiece won't fit.

What I did was get a Gibson pickguard trace and then adapt it to a G400 body. What I got was a shorter pickguard with different PUP and holes locations.

(I did it twice by the way : one for humbuckers, one for P90s) :

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, found this thread searching for a full pickguard for the G-400.

DLITB is absolutely right, the standard SG full pickguard for both Vintage and Modern dont fit the G-400. I learned the hardway by purchasing both.
Also no it cant be modified to fit. The bridge holes wont line up, and the old screw holes from the small pickguard will show.

Anyways what I did was I made a tracing of modern style SG full pickguard. Modified its dimensions to fit the G-400 with no modifications, even the old screw holes will be hidden.

I printed out the tracing, cut it and tested it on my G400... looks good!

If you guys want the tracing, I have it on my webserver

Now if only I can find someone to cut it for me :)

To breathe a fresh breath into this old thread, I've found Greasy Groove (Greasy Groove Inc - Coolest Guitar Parts on the Planet) has zillions of pickguards and many many other parts for guitars, including both Gib & Epi SGs. Just about as many styles & materials of pickguards with prints, w/o prints, metal, wood, single, 3 & 4-ply, etc. Check them out. I think the average full faced p-guard price for an SG is about $35. They also have pups, pup covers, knobs, you name it.

I bought a stock Gibson pickguard, and all I had to do to get a good fit was to slightly enlarge the holes for the bridge studs, and shave a little off between the neck pickup and the neck. Perfect fit after those mods!

A new old look

I had a similarly easy fit with my G-400 mod .
In addition to the mods Al mentioned, I had to enlarge the pickup slots .

Hi Biddlin, I'm new to this forum, I also want to put the full face pickguard on my G400. I'm doing a Glen Buxton from the Alice Cooper Band, copy. Is there anyway to get a copy of the template that you did for your guitar. Yours looks fantastic. Mucho thanks. Gbux.
