i've played the g-400 in the local guitar center, i think its a very good guitar for the money. the pups arent super good, but seems to play nice. and for $400 (thats what they go for, right?), you can't go wrong

The fixed neck G-400 line is good as long as you do a few mods such as change out the pickups, pots, cap and switch ! Once that is done you got yourself a great axe for the bucks !

Start with the most important mod --- a set of Duncan PhatCat pickups.
After that, anything else you do to it is simply lagniappe!

I tried one out at Mom&Pop.As these guys say the pups are gonna have to go.Also the neck is pretty large on that one.You might want to sand the neck some cuz the one I played was pretty sticky. They are beautifully made though for an Epi.

a decent piece of sg!!

let me tell u !!
some folks say that is better to invest in a name instead of what ur heart dictate, (a gibson v.s. epi)
justs a very decent and fine guitar some minor tweaking, (pickps, tuners, electrnics)
but wort the effort.
u can get the classic tones that u love !
i really recommended!!

I bought a mint used Custom-$325.
I've never been one to be really picky about pups. I don't need hi-output & unless they're just out & out muddy, I can make them work.
Since I don't play professionally(for money  ) any longer, I don't have the money to invest in the 'hi-dollar" guitars anymore, so I've been buying copies & low end name brands. They've turned out pretty good, after having a bit of work done to them. Sadly, I've never learned to work on them.....I guess if I'm going to keep doing this, I really need to learn how to do the work myself!
Other than Strats & a Nashville Tele, I have no experience with triple pups, especially HB's & am kinda curious as to what the middle pup adds. I guess I'll know shortly, since it supposed to arrive tomorrow.
btw...is their a 5-way selector switch for this HB setup...if so, what would the result be if one was installed?

There was such a switch on the SG Deluxe and a couple of peeps here have that guit. A Variatone should work like on the Gibson "Lucille".

I got my 400 Custom in today. It a really nice guitar! Seems to hold tune very nicely.
I didn't realize the controls would be 3 volume & one tone. With the way it's set up, it have quite a few tone options, so the 5-way switch may not be necessary.
I not sure what the #2 & 4 'out of phase' positions would add tonally.
I've only tried it with my practice amp, so it'll be Saturday before I can really give it a good workout.....but so far, I'm very please with it.
