Are those 67 reissues off the line? I thought those were custom shop models. As for limited editions, don't trust Gibson to keep them limited. I have a 2001 Classic. After Gibson discontinued them, they went on to crank them out by the forest load for Guitar Center or Musicians Friend, I forget which. Not that I really care, but don't buy a guitar thinking its going to be scarce in the future.

That 67 special looks too good to be true. Grab one.

I had the same plan a couple of weeks ago following Jason's (Tattooed Carrott) heads up on the 67's (thanks Jason BTW) but didnt proceed either based on the overall cost. A great deal in the US and not a great deal for us in the UK!!!

Classic do come up from time to time, ive had 3 from the USA in the past and usually pay around £350-£450 plus shipping and taxes (which arent as steep as suggetsed probably less than £100). Ebony Stain classic are like Rocking Horse Poo!!!

A friend of mine is going to San Diego in August. I might ask him to get me one of those '67 SG's. Knowing my luck though, they'll probably be all gone by then  It's a shame that I don't know anyone living there who could pop in, get a cash only deal then send it to me through regular post, mark it as a gift and a lower value for the nice customs people ;D Failing that, it would probably be cheaper for me to fly over and bring it back!!!

You're right about the Ebony Stain model. I'd have more luck finding Elvis :p

If he doesn't, get a pal in the US to ship it to you instead. :)

'Oh happy days, oh happy days' :D The seller was totally fine about it! I did explain that I'd been looking for one for ages and I couldn't take the chance of asking if he'd ship to the UK just incase somebody else bought it in the meantime. Sometimes you've just got to take a chance ;D (I was half expecting him to say no though).

Thanks for all your kind & helpful replies!!!!!!!!!

What did he quote you for shipping?

I asked someone about shipping for a Gibson neck, and they quoted $130! Everyone else selling necks seem to quote around $30-$40 to the UK!

Dont pay more than $100 for shipping to the UK, a lot of sellers try and rip you off with $150 - $300 for shipping, when it arrives it has $87 paid stamped on it :(

Can you let me know how much the taxes cost when it comes through? If I had a classic come through as well would it be charged the same amount of tax or does it depend what mood they're in?

I work on the principle of 22% of the guitar price, its never been more and is often slightly less. The amount is for Vat and customs/import tax along with a charge from parcelforce which in itself is £8. The amount the seller puts on the customs notice obviously effects the outcome, if its sent with a value of around $100 or as a gift the duty and vat can be considerably less although i wouldnt actively encourage you to be dishonest (at least not publically on a forum ;) ) Some sellers are more 'helpful' than others......

Hi, I'm back! The guy charged me $175 for shipping, which seems high, as it probably will arrive with a sticker saying $80 as somebody stated earlier, however, I'm hoping not to pay so much import tax ;) ;).

As I took a chance and 'bought it now' without checking if he ships to the UK, I was willing to pay the $175 shipping fee and the fact that the £ is strong against the $ (plus it comes with a case so that would make it heavier).

I'm expecting it to cost me £510 (or there abouts which I'm happy with, especially as it's ebony stain). Saying that, I haven't received it yet, but when I do I'll post some pictures and let you know if it was such a bargain after all :rockin:

Can't wait for the pics! It should be very good if it does cost you £510.

I've bought and sold a lot of expensive gear over the year on ebay and I stopped selling overseas because I would always have guys buy the item then complain it should cost $80 to ship. I've never had it cost that cheap - never. It's costs me more than that to ship a guitar from California to Hawaii or Alaska. Go get a shipping quote from one of the shipper websites and I'd say dending on where you are, it's $130 on up. Remember that due to the size of a guitar, the automatic billing weight with all the major shippers jumps up to 35lbs regardless of how much the guitar actually weighs. I solved the problem by just refusing to ship overseas anymore. In fact, I don't even ship to Hawaii or Alaska anymore for the same reason. Glad it worked out for you this time, those brown Classics are hard to find anymore.
