I am starting to build guitars to replace my long lost collection. I had a '65 SG Cherry finished Standard with the polygon inlays, and fretless wonder fingerboard, and Vibrola vibrato. It got stolen at a party at my house when I was 17 years old, and now 40 years later I want to reproduce it. I have the mahogany, but finding plans or drawings are nearly impossible. I have 25 years + of CAD experience, and I tend to design that way, and create my templates using 1:1 plots. Any leads will be appreciated, as I'll create a build thread to show how I do it. It'll never be a Gibson, and I'd rather it be an MG Standard. Thanks.

Welcome to EverythingSG mgdesigns! Sorry about your loss, that really sucks... The idea of building your own SG sounds neat and here's something that could be of some help. Good luck with your project and don't forget to post pics with the whole process!

One love star

Welcome to ETSG mgdesigns! :) :) :)

Be sure to photog your project as you go. It can be a great learning process for others that may want to give it a go.......

I'm in the process of building my own as well. Follow this link, there's another link to a pdf file that has plans for 5 different guitars (the SG being one of them). Take it to Kinkos and they can print it to size. Good luck.

Thanks for the link. This should prove very helpful. Your avatar looks just like my old SG - boo-hoo. I'll proabaly skip the Vibrola, as I don't have the parts or the need for such a thing. I may make a mockup, and do the hand engraving myself (as I have done a few hand engraved projects for Gibson Custom Division, and custom Banjo and Guitar makers in the Nashville area). I am building a few mini-strat-teles right now, as well as my 1st full size tele.

Be careful with those plans. They are not to scale.
I have them here on my PC at work and if you blow it up to match the printed scale to a ruler
the actual measurements that are printed are wrong.

I could be a useful guide but I wouldn't use it as the Bible !

I just built my own SG (and implemented a few other Gibson designs and models as well). It was a fun process and turned out the way I intended. Soon, I'll have to get off my a$$ and post some pics.
