Hey guys!

My name is Chris. Just your average Ex-Pat/struggling musician/teacher from New York, eking out a living all the way in Northern Bohemia (the Czech republic). New to the board and New to SGs. I just got my 2000 SG Classic one week ago and I Love it! I don't know what's taken me so long to come around to them. I spent most of my musical experience strumming acoustics and a whinny singer song writer-ish thing but since moving over seas and putting together a more Funk/blues/rock based band I've gotten into electrics later on in life. Up until now I've been playing cheap european knock off jazz boxes (some of which have been amazing) and for a while I had an LP Studio that I played from time to time but never really got attached to. I'm not sure why but for some reason, when the financial situation allowed me to buy a new guitar I thought "I'm going to look in to an SG". I had the chance to play a friends mid 60's junior and I could't believe how good it felt and I loved the tone and the versatility of a P-90 so I looked around and found a classic (could never afford a mid 60's junior… I don't think) that wasn't all original so was at a good price for gibsons in europe. I'm so glad I did. I'm definatly an SG convert! Look forward to learning from all of you! Thanks!

Chris

Welcome Chris, like many of us falling into the SG realm was far too long. I played Teles for years and years among other guitars. But I came around and haven't looked back since. All my electrics are SG's now some with P 90's the others humbucking. No matter what I'm playing the SG's will cover it
Welcome and Glad to have you here among us.

cayc Great looking Classic. My Flip Flop (Teal Blue metallic) SG has the Classic's P 90 set up now and it is my main axe.
If I had only one guitar it would most definitely be a P 90 equipped SG.
It doesn't get much rest but here's a good shot:

My Classic looks like this these days. I put a set of Lollar Imperials in it. Great sounding guitar but it is a close second to my P 90 SG.
Those Gibson P 90's through a tube amp with a tad of reverb is just so sweet.

Beautiful guitars AC! Just out of curiosity, why take the p-90's out of the Classic? Is it because your other guitar already had p-90's? I just put mine down for the evening. I still can't get over the quality of guitar that you get for an SG at such a value price wise (comparatively speaking)! My LP Studio that I had (I think it was a 2001 or 2002) was alright, but I remember thinking at the time I was playing it that it wasn't so much better than any other guitar I'd played. But this SG, Man Alive, does it ever blow any guitar I've ever owned AWAY. In all honesty, I never really had a "nice" electric guitar, but I've owned some really nice acoustics (Martins and Taylors) and this is the first one that felt so good to play immediately!

Boy that's along story but the short of it is I feel hard for my Flip Flop SG because of the way it felt. Never picked up a guitar before that just made me feel like WOW:wow:.
It was a Special ( like in my avater pic) but I really like P 90's so I found a really good used Classic and switched everything over to the Flip Flop SG. A lot of work, router set up,
careful measuring and rebuilding the Flip Flop to be a Classic but in the end I'm really, really happy I did.
I dig the FlipFlop even more now. And after some tweeking and some router work I got my used Classic in fine shape too and really like it as a Humbucker equipped SG.
I even put a coil tap on the neck pickup so I can go to a single coil neck tone and have the ability to add the bridge humbucker with the single coil neck tone in addition to the humbucker neck tone.
It was a win win for me. I love both the guitars Just prefer the Flip Flop SG with P 90's.
I bought this SG3 used and found I really didn't like the blade pickups at all and found a set of used Lollar PU's and created this sweetheart of an SG.

Stay tuned though I'm in the middle of an SG Junior project with a Lollar P 90 5% overwind PU that I'm pretty stoked about.
I'm telling you I got the SG Bug bad. Luckily I do all the work myself in my guitar shop and buy used SG's.
I consider them adoptions and bring them back to life they way I like them.
It's all in good fun.
Cheers:cheers:
