Are you sure about the 00-15? Is it stamped on the back of the neck block?

The Gruhn Guide says the 00-15 ranged from 1998- current. The 0-15 ran 1935 (2) and then again 1940- 43 and once again 1948- 63. See if there's any other ID marks so we can determine the exact year and then maybe check some vintage mags on the subject. 8) 8)

Cool on the 0-15! The book doesn't say anything about serial numbers........... :-\ But another option is to take it to an appraiser............. but you got to be careful. Make sure they are qualified and have the info to back up their claim. It may cost a little, but it may be worth it for insurance purposes............ 8)

Your local music shop may be able to give you the name of an appraiser. There are some other ways, like Gruhns told me years ago to send them some pix and 25 bucks and they'd give me a certified appraisal............. never got around to it...

The 51 may be a ball park idea, but remember that 0 bids may mean it's too high....... or no ones looking for one right now. 2K seems a bit high to me.... but I'm not in to that type of guitar. Someone who is in to Martin might disagree. Have you checked for a Martin forum on the net. They should have a good ball park idea........ Who knows, you might even get offers...... :coolsmiley:

Going by the serial number alone, it falls into the range of numbers produced in 1949.... so I would suggest that it was made late that year.

1949 108270 to 112961

my uncle (rich beyond all reason) who i have seen 1ce in my life. he came down for a visit (family thanksgiving) bearing gifts. i think my grandma told him i was playing guitar and he had this sitting in his massive closet. its been abused. not been played for like 40 years. im sure hes never touched it. if he knew it had any value to it i wouldnt have aquired it. he gave it to me and told me to learn some very old songs for the next time he comes down. well im sure that will be in a long time. the tuners wouldnt turn, the knobs (origional) were disenagrated ( as well as the bridge pins), and there were long but shallow scratches on it. so me and my dad put new bridge pins and tuners on it and i play it when family is around. the action is terrible as you go up the neck from being so old so it isnt a blast to play compared to my sgs and ovation. it needs a neck reset but i worry that'll cost more than the guitar is worth. if someone here is in to these things please give me a ring. im willing to sell to anyone here. i also got a really cool pick up with it. real old school you put it under the strings and theres a cord connected (like anyone needed to be told that). i havent used it in fear i might break something. i have a feeling that might be worth something as well. pics of that tomorow. woohoo swell gift if you ask me.

in my own little world... apparently
well, you are a young man who sees that guitar as potentially something of enough value that can be sold and turned into another more practical guitar that you would use. it doesn't appear to have much sentimental value, no family history tied to it in any way. my thought was that you might sell it now only to regret it at some point later on if there was some intangible personal connection to it, which i dont have any reason to believe you do at this point.

i think the key thing here is how patient are you to wait until you can properly appraise it and then, even tougher, wait until you can get the price you want for it. another source of regret would be to settle for a couple hundred bucks on what later on you find would have got a thousand if you had waited.

sounds like it wouldn't be worth top dollar if she's a bit "used up" as it appears in your replies.

I have this really old kay electric guitar that my grandfather owned. he used it mostly to run scales up and down with a little amp in the window to drive the neighbors nuts. when i was about 15 or so, he gave it to me. its a cheapie guitar, prob not worth a dime, but because of the history with it, i keep it around and every now and then it reminds me of him when i pick it up.

ya i would love to have a piece of family history that would be tied to it but i dont even know this guy. you're definantly right im gonna wait till i get a good price. i really would dig something i can really have fun playing (i want to get a custom but it'll take years of saving for that). and i know someone other than myself will really appreciate this guitar. but like i said if anyone here has a thing for these guitars please talk to me and who knows maybe we can work something out. ill love to see it go to someone who'll treat it right.
