Hey guys looking at the Marshall MX112 for just home use. There is currently a 2x12 MX212A for sale with mixed speakers, but I think that might be WAY overkill for what I'm doing.
My 1x12 DSL40C sounds perfect for what I'm doing.
Just trying to get some help on what would be better for me.

It really depends. If the 2x12 is going for a good price then why not grab it? If it's a question of space, or the 1x12 is cheaper then that could be better. A 2x12 can be louder because two speakers will move more air, but it doesn't have to be louder and depending on what the mixed speakers are it could give you a better sound.

I guess a bit more info would be useful. What exactly are you trying to achieve? Are you looking to add an extension speaker to the DSL40 and run it together with the combo's speaker? Do you want to bypass the inbuilt speaker and just run it through a cab? Are you limited in terms of space or max volume?

Yeah sorry I was confused from reading about cabs all arvo. Had to get out for a bit after starting this thread haha!
The cab is a slant cab. If I’m allowed to post the eBay link I can.
It will be used with a 50w head I’ve ordered.
I’ll post a pic of my current setup.
I plan to have the cab on the floor with the DSLc on top of it and then the head on top of that.

I just did a calculation of the total height and it comes to 151cm tall. Too tall?

Those vertical 2x12 slant cabs look great. I think one would pair perfectly with a 50w head.

The MX ones come with Celestion Seventy 80s which people seem to have mixed feelings about. I have no experience with them, and I suppose if you didn't like them they can always be replaced.

I personally wouldn't include the DSL40 in the stack, no real reason for it and too big a chance for disaster. Just leave it on the floor.

There’s no space on the floor for it. I might just have to stick with the 1x12. At least it’s closed back.

Wow, if you're in that small a space I'm not sure 40-50w amps through one or two 12" speakers are doing you any favours. Personally I'd be using a THR10 or similar.

i have an MX 2x12 slant cab, with an Origin 20 running through it. The standard 70/80 are a fairly neutral sounding speaker. It was fine stock, sounded good with a fairly early break up with humbuckers. I've since replaced one speaker with a V30, which I got cheap, which has filled the sound out a little. Have a G12 75 in the offing, which I will be trying in it at some point. BUT; if I couldnt get the extra speakers cheap I'm not sure I would bother changing them - I was pretty happy with the sound as it was, just the availability of some cheap speakers lead to the experimentation, rather than a disatisfaction with the seventy 80 sound.

Yeah I like the 70/80 in the DSLC, I've recently pushed it closer to the wall so I would get more bass response from it. Huge improvement and can only be better with a closed back 1x12.
Once that MX112 comes back into stock I'm going to buy it.

So you're looking for better than perfect? :p

In seriousness, I have always preferred the sound of two speakers to one. You can run lower levels and still get the room full, especially open-backed.

Had the MX112 come in yesterday, spent 30 minutes or so just breaking in the speaker. Sounds good so far. I might have to close up the back of the DSL to make it sound as good.
