It's stupid to upload photos that large. Regarding the guitars I believe that they will surely suit some people's style. And if it isn't so many then the guitars will become rare high prized collectors items some fine day. But it isn't a one-of-a kind piece of artwork as the original Fool's guitar.

I could live with the grey one. The others would require taking LSD and listening to Jefferson Airplane all night, before I go to purchase one. lol

The Zoot Suit Series seems to have very little mid ground........ You either like it or you don't. They definitely go beyond the conservative realm of the standard SG....... and the carved top aspect helps accent the colors.

Assuming that the Gibson SG electronics are as they usually are then it comes down to personal likes. For me, the "normal" play time I would turn to my trusted Specials but for those times I feel like making a statement........... The Zoot would certainly do that.

2 things

1st, those guitars are nothing but carved plywood, YUK!, Gibson should be tarred and feathered for this one.

2nd, whoever posted those photos should be tarred and feathered as well, learn how to post photos on the internet.

Then Gibson would try to sell us the new environmental "earthline" SG's with tarred feathery finishes.

Maybe not plywood but definitely laminated. I'll take plain mahogany, in one piece if possible.

Laminated is a nice way of saying Plywood.......... Total Crap! I cant believe that Gibson would stoop so low, but then again, with our new enviromentally concious govt its probably going to be alot harder to use exotic woods, yes, our beloved guitars will soon be made out of anything but good wood because somebody who thinks the world is coming to an end is forcing others to abide by rules and regulations to conform to their new "Green Religious Beliefs". Soon, no guitars will be manufactured in Amercia once the EPA gets thier mits on the rest of US Industry.

Laminated wood is different from plywood.
[/quote]

According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica:

"Plywood and laminated wood are both made of layers (laminae) of wood glued together. The basic difference is that in plywood the grain of alternate layers is crossed, in general at right angles, whereas in laminated wood it is parallel."

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/647253/wood/26173/Plywood-and-laminated-wood

Even though I'm not a fan of these guitars, I would be interested to see something that describes the process of how the wood was created for these guitars.

Its the same process as making a skateboard, wood, glue and high pressure, they simply stain the different colors of veneers before gluing them up, then when you cut and rout through them it creates those lines.

It looks good, hey, I've seen transvestites that looked good!!!!!

I can't tell, do these guitars have a nitro finish?? I think if they did have a nitro finish the colors would look deeper, and they would be allot more fancy

All my SG's look this colourful after a night on the tiles! - SGs: Bold As Love :)

I actually like the candy look but will be interested to see if they sell.

Most Gibson buyers are pretty conservative, so it's a very bold move for Gibson.

AxRab, a veneer is a very thin piece of wood that generally covers cheaper woods underneath. This guitar would be laminated wood.

And I think the biggest question is, Why doesn't Gibson spend their time and money either fixing what's wrong with their current models or making ones that more than three people will buy.

They are 3300x6180 and 4MB each. That is huge when on a low speed connection. Sorry for being off topic.

Why that would be too easy, logical, and out of historical character for the company that has had so many false starts, discontinued great guitars and introduced MANY models that no one particularly wanted. Think the 70's. When taken over in '86, the new owners for a while did a great job of producing the classics.

Here's Gibson's dilemma: their classics (175, 335, Les Paul. SG, V's, Firebirds, etc.) were all innovative at one time. They need to continue innovation. However, for good business sense they need to make the "bread and butter" guitars and make sure the selection is what the market wants. So the problem is that they have not had a really great *new* model guitar in years. Yes they have a wide range of flavors of many things, but most are still based on older successes.

So I forgive them for all the misses. One day they will get lucky again and produce the great new guitar we all want next to our SG's, Strats, LP's, etc.

Ya know what? A good player is a good player, that's a good player, if it's a good player .. so, one never knows what one finds hiding in the basement of a guitarMart! There will be very good and very bad .. we just have to get thru the search to the exceptional players and then start the search again ;D and this isn't as vague as you might think :coolsmiley:

Veneers are thin pieces of wood used for laminating either onto OR sandwiched to make plys. These guitars are Laminated Veneers that create a Ply of Wood, PLYWOOD!

Uh.........

Here maybe this will help, here is the link to the company that is making the guitars for Gibson
