Hello! I am happy to announce that I bought 2 sg this week....
I wanted to start a new refinish project so I was looking for a deal for good woods and generally looking to the parts to share with my final project (color of the hardware, basic color of the guitar to spare some part of the refinish, pickups...). My first was a SG ebony custom with ebony fretboard and gold hardware. beautiful.
made the deal, I should receive her today or monday. in the meantime a friend sends me a link for a g400 from 2010, cherry, heavily modified with a vibrola and EMG ZAKK WILDE kit.... local pickup...... for a ridicolous price! can't resist and in 2 hours was mine :D but I really don't like the vibrola and the emg...not for my style.
However now she is barewood ready to start the project! and I undestood why the low price. pickups are ok and good working but tuners are to be mainteined (needs new washers that luckily I already have for a previous mod) and the bridge is trash.... I have to make a new nut too. but no problem...I already had to change it because of the color.... and I already have it from a previous project so....
here she is

First I had to strip anything and…: found a lot problems….. the easiest was to close the vibrola screw holes.

After that (and the time passes because I have just more than an hour a day in working data and few more in the weekend) I wanted to get rid of the finish… tryed EVERYTHING !! Standing, mouse, electric tools… nothing! So I tryed chemicals….. NOTHING! just the glossy…. So I bought a heat gun. And finally!
But due to inexperience or dunno what:.. I Made a mess!!!

and yesterday night...I worked out the bevels...by hand.... note that the holes now have a very thin wood and I will have to reinforce it.
Next time I have already in mind what to do .....but it will be the report maybe of this weekend.... have a nice day!

Hello!!! today was a productive day!! I started copying all the holes in a paper,

7C372BA8-A583-4B42-81D0-2D7EA859C9AA - dimensioni grandi.jpeg

then I made my veneer

74DDB033-0A16-4A09-9643-0A6CB3DCB49E - dimensioni grandi.jpeg

I made two to be exact....but it's another story. I tryed my best this time but I was always worried about anything.
the glue, the cutting, the positioning,

7406075E-0E3A-41EA-BFEE-E6BC39A1B351 - dimensioni grandi.jpeg

so ....mahogany veneer is in place. I also tinted a scrap piece staining it. looks ok by me.

after that I took the paper with the holes and as I was hoping I managed to replace all the holes but one but it is one for the pickguard screw so I don't worry.

93570EA6-E1B2-4B4D-B95A-6599D7773368 - dimensioni grandi.jpeg

so now looks like that and I wonder....do I have to put a veneer also in the back? just for consistancy...I want a red burst (red and black)so maybe....dunno....is long and difficult.....what do you think?

Well, you could just lightly stain the back before applying the burst.
