Three Amigos rock! ha ha. Funniest line in that movie is when the hot Mexi Moma asks Chevy "Would you like to kiss me on the veranda?" Chevys line?? "Ah no thanks, The lips will be fine" bamm snap ditty boom. What was he thinking?? hmm?

What was he thinking?? –It’s a mystery. The Dictionary gives no clues:

Verandah – A large porch. The term dates to 1711 and came from the Hindi varanda, which in turn is thought to have come from a Portuguese word meaning "long balcony or terrace".

Verandahs are usually quite large and may encompass the entire façade as well as the sides of a structure.

A porch is often as broad as it is deep, and may provide sufficient space for residents to entertain guests or gather on special occasions. Older American homes, particularly those built during the era of Victorian Architecture, or the Queen Anne style, often included a porch in both the front and the back of the home. This is used as a sitting space as well. However, many American homes built since the 1940s with a porch only have a token one, (rear one) usually too small for comfortable social use and adding only to the visual impression of the building. The New Urbanism movement in architecture urges a reversal in this trend, recommending a large porch facing the street, to help build community ties.

JohnP, the underlined parts in the description were dirtier than the original joke was my friend. I liked the 'entertain guests / gather on special occassions' part... my kind a girl.

Just waiting for tomorrow to get time to test the Strato with my Marshall DSL 401 -combo. The amp has been at my friends place over the winter and now it is back again. The Strato with those Fat50's and dropD, I expect to get very decent sound.

You see the cold weather up here slows down everything. Even the time between the posts can be several weeks. :fingersx:

Aint it spring way up there yet? Heck, even I got to mow the lawn for the first time last week. Granted it's only the Catskill Mnts but I'm still 2 weeks behind the valley below when the weather changes over & the leaves start turning green. How close are you to the Arctic Circle anyway?? And how has global warming affected the nearest glacier?

Barry, they are still Bonkers for ya in Yonkers! Being in Catskill Mountains must be giving you a groovy aura since it's near the famed site of Woodstock...may the truth be told, Barry!:dude:

Yes, we have the spring already, trees have leaves and I have started the lake swimming season about a week ago. The water temp was refreshing +7C (ice deck melted week earlier).:thumb:

Damn. Them is some harsh conditions bro. How far away is the nearest glacier or isn't there any of those around you there? I've been seeing a couple different documentaries that had done time laps photography in which those ancient behemoths are surely receding in large measure and soon to be gone in 10 to 20 years if the rate of retreat keep up, at least in those areas. Same for the southern ice sheet. It is simply amazing what a couple of degrees temperature can do to our seemingly delicate environment. Hell, after hurricane Irene nearly wiped me off the map with water levels that geologist that who showed up to investigate & measure things said "were better than '1000 year flood record levels'!" Yee Haw! Is it summer yet? In fact, springtime around here has mostly disappeared and things usually turn right into summer heat & humidity. The days of drawn out mild & near perfect temps have seemingly been shortened. Well enough talk of the weather, hows that Strat coming Bro?

I live at Helsinki area so actually quite far away from the arctic circle. As Finland is pretty flat country, we don't have any glaciers here. I think in Norway or in Sweden they have some at the high mountains. The global warming has some effects here, the winters are more snowy, at Helsinki area there has been 4 years in a row pretty much snow, about a bit over 60 cm. Also the summers have been warmer that they used to be (at least what I recall). And summer storms are frequently more strong than they used to be.

With the Strato: so far I have tested only the clean channel and yes, it is very clean - even too clean. That drop D did not fit for those settings at all so tuned it std E. Well, it certainly expanded the sound range in clean sound I had earlier to new dimensions. It is something totally different I found as first expression with Blackstar HT-1. Tomorrow I will test the OD1 and OD2-channels of DSL. Most likely they come pretty close to HT-1.

So you're still using the fat 50's and didn't like the tones in drop D? With a single coil it can take some work sometimes to fatten Stuff up. I'm sure you;ll have better results with the OD1 & 2 channels. Throw a nice pedal in there too, it's not cheatin! I know, you wanna hear the pups for what they are. I'm just afraid you might have to sneak one of those Hot Rails type pups in there if you are looking to kick some serious ass beyond what a single can give you.

The SD Little 59 is another nice option too.

I've heard lots of cats play these in their Strats and I've honestly always liked their sound with them.

Hey Black, Funny you should mention Woodstock. When I lived down in the lower Valley I was real close to the town maybe 4 miles to the town line. When they had Woodstock 94 it was in my hometown. We rented the back fields out to Michael & the crew and they set up these big ass tents with homemade bunk beds for people working. On the Sunday morning that Santana was playing I was watching him live on HBO. I turned down the volume and opened the window and listened to about a 10 second delay coming through from what I was watching. Pretty cool but it got annoying after a bit.

I found some nice setting from OD2 and finally also from the clean channel. The pick up selector at middle position and the tones at about 8. Now it starts to sound good with the DSL. In general the Strato needs more dialling in with that amp, SGs more easy going with that amp. Or maybe I'm just used to that SG-tone..

That must have been a thrill to hear Santana just outside your window, but I know what you mean about being annoying because you would rather be at the actual concert so it's a tease!:naughty: I remember watching Woodstock '94 on Much Music here in good ol' Canad-eh!:thumb: It was pretty exciting since I was a Woodstock stock fan from the original. But it occurred to me later on that Woodstock '94 did not have the same spirit like the original back in 1969. The 3-day event back in 1969 is something you cannot recreate over again because it was a special moment in music history. It was a coming together of music lovers that captured that magic moment perfectly. The corporate music world suppressed that spirit in '94...may the truth be told Barry from your patented Truthbuckers. :dude:

Truth be told Black you are so right about the spirit being different. I wish I was at the real deal origin-nal 6-niner, but I was 8! Still and all the whole experience was cool enough and will have to do. I would have loved to have been 10-15 years older and live through the whole 60's peace love generation thing and all the changes going on in the world with such an awesome musical soundtrack playing. Good stuff man.

We did a gig Saturday night and left them screaming, despite being some of the older folks in the joint! But it was afterward that the music of the day was playing & I couldn't help feel sad because the music today is just missing that certain something that made the music of the sixties & seventies so special and seem almost magical.

It is difficult to describe. With the Blackstar I get nice metal-type sound and most of the cleans with DSL delivers great "Ruotsinlaivat"-sound. Ruotsinlaivat is a ferry (or actually ferries) traveling between Helsinki and Stockholm and there are bands playing this kind of music (if one likes that :naughty:). So describing the sound with one word: wide :laugh2:

Those 50s have me back to running the single coils through Fenders using a Micro-Vibe and Zen Drive. That whole Trower/Hendrix vibe wowed me with the 50's. Yes I'm stuck in the 60'70s "but again". I thought I was out for moment, but nope, back again. Does seem to have a repetitive effect. :applause:

It seems that modding Strats is quite popular here! It is fun to give the guitar a personalized look :applause:

It's really cool isn't it? In a way, Fender Stratocasters are like Holley carburetors. Their modular construction allows you to readily customize for performance and appearance. Plus, if "numbers matching" is not a concern, the modularity allows you to even put the neck you want on the body you want.

I love Strats.
