I find myself playing the faded I picked up several weeks ago, far, far more than my standard. I am kinda unhappy that I don't play my standard as much.

Maybe it's the finish on the neck
Maybe its the width, taper etc of the neck.
Maybe it's the SD 59s and 50s style wiring and pots

I pick up the standard and play for 15 minutes, put it back in the case and then play the faded for another 45 minutes.

Don't get me wrong. I do love my standard. I do like the neck, I love the coil splitting pots and PAF 57s. I just can't figure out why I am gravitating towards the faded more than the standard.

It bugs me.

It bugs me.

It bugs me, too. I feel for you and your Standard. Honestly, I do.

That's why I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of my charity, Smitty P's Home for Guitars. As I've highlighted previously, at Smitty P's Home for Guitars, we take in poor, neglected instruments and expend the greatest of care in placing them in loving, caring hands.

Trust me, our standards are very high. We don't just give guitars away to just anybody. In fact, our standards are so high that no one has ever met them! So, should you donate your guitar, we will take the best of care of it until we find a new owner. Which, is likely to be never.

When you donate your guitar, you will receive a receipt, which is not tax deductible, but will say "Thank you!" in the nicest font I have on my computer. More importantly, you will have the peace of mind that your donated guitar is being loved and cherished (and gigged).

Don't let it bug ya Dave. Stop fighting and just go with it! :D

Seriously though I think the faded models are killer! I absolutely love my 2011. For the money they are going for used, they are a wicked value.

For about 15 years or so, I was deep into fingerpicking acoustic guitars. Blues mostly, some Fahey stuff too. I learned to play slide guitar during this time too. Really didn't touch an electric at all.
So anyways, a few years ago I got the urge to get back into electrics again. That's when I learned about the faded models. I read the specs and couldn't believe it! It was like Gibson had made an sg model just for me. It was exactly what I was looking for in a sg, right down to the finish. Perfecto! :thumb:

Enjoy your faded man!!!

Aiye, I miss me Standard too I do.. The poor Bonny Lass.
There she is just a just a layin there in her case with her mid 60's Patent Sticker Pups (I had lovingly installed meself...) taken back away out of her & the gift of that pricey upgrade of a Stetsbar Trem removed & given to another as well.
There she is,.. Just sittin, probably wonderin how she fell from being my #1 to falling right off the chart all together. Hell, I haven't even bothered to put her original pups back in or put the Stop-tail & Bridge back together or string her back up! And that case she rest in might as well be her coffin for all I'm concerned or maybe just a safe mode of transportation to the next person that cares to have her as she is with all her faults & shortcomings I can't accept or tolerate anymore,.. oh wait, I dare say no more now. enough .. my heart... steady now..

But it surely wasn't the love of another that stole my affections away from her I tell ya that much. No, mine is a far sadder & sorry tale indeed. One that I can't even entertain going through & reliving again by mentioning here on your tongue n cheek page (page's' someday maybe) ! No! I just can't. Besides I don't want to sully up your little gem of a light hearted thread you got going on here with its whole 'Cheatin Heart' 'Heart Stolen By Another' theme with all the fun anthropomorphism we're giving to our much loved but inanimate guitars.

All I'll say is, 'You should be thankful that if you so decided you could still go back to that love you left behind for another & still enjoy playing her without any 'issues' getting in the way. This is where instruments are more forgiving than women. So cheat away fellas! Your old Standard will be there ready for you to lay hands on her whenever you are ready & it will be just like old times whenever the day comes! That's a 'Win - Win' sitchiation right there boys!

As much as I compassionately feel for your dilemma, I wouldn't mind having your problem.
You are in the honeymoon period, things will sort themselves out.
Go with what feels right.

They are similar but different beauties.
Maybe one is sweeter and the other likes it rough and dirty.

You can be in love with more than 1.
Its ok to practice guitar polygamy.

you are not alone. I have a couple of really nice guitars that are much more expensive and much fancier than my humble SG faded special with ebony fretboard and yet... it is the guitar I seem to pick up. My SG faded and my old strat are the two guitars that I always seem to play. I enjoy the beauty and craftsmanship of my other guitars but just don't seem to play them nearly as much. I have just decided I am a simple guy and have simple taste and that is the way it is. I'm going to play what I like the best and not really care what the guitars look like. Now having said that... I keep thinking about refinishing my faded special SG with a nice white nitro finish but I hate to have to take it out of service for a few weeks while it cures up.

I play my faded a lot more than my Standard. One of my main reasons is to keep mileage off the standard. I know a refret on it (has nibs) will be a totally different beast than a refret on my faded. Long term and probably silly reason, but it works for me.

Plus I painted the faded so it looks dang sweet. That's a different story.

Basically, go with it man and play the crap out of that faded till the standard calls you back to it.

Played a gig tonight - took the standard. she sang beautifully . She felt good in my hands. Like a special lady She was polite, gracious, and held her own. Got home plugged in the faded - she's a dirty girl. She does things the faded won't do...she screams :D :naughty: She's like that slutty girl you ditch your prom queen date for and go slam some boiler makers then tear each others clothes off .
I need to sleep. :) :dude:
