unbound headstock with crappy looking diamond decal, wrong fingerboard inlays, pickguard totally fekked up, neck joint cover missing "Les Paul Custom" logo
. . . I could go on and on, but this is about as fake as they come . . . in fact, it is just plain wrong

I was, but not now. I don't have anything against cheap Chinese bangers, in fact I have a couple that are not too bad, but I don't try to pass them off as the real deal.
I've just always wanted a Custom to go along with the Standard, but until recently, kids, mortgages and real life have prevented it. :Droolin:

.......... but on the other hand, if you can play it and it plays well then give a proper price for a fake......... You may be able to get it dirt cheap and save someone else from getting scammed..... but still get a good guitar. Isn't it in the playing............?  :coolsmiley:

.... I agree Weas  but is it getting a guitar that sounds good (about the playing) or the business/ collectablity of the piece? To me, if it was a good playing and sounding guitar, I buy it.... but ONLY if it sounded good. The "wrong to patronize a guy selling a fake....." unfortunately only means he will find another"sucker"....... Sad state of affairs............

And even worse.... he prolly wouldn't sell it to someone that knows it's a fake anyway. Whatcha gonna do.......... :-\ :-\

Yep, it is a sad commentary.   I just hate seeing a newbie guitar player getting suckered into buying a guitar that sounds and looks great at first, only to have it start falling apart later on........makes ya want to stop playing altogether.

Back before ebay, I answered an ad for a Les Paul/SG Jr, only to find out the guy had actually had a rubber stamp made and stamped the headstock Les Paul Junior :o go figure  :-\

Good points from everyone. Unfortunately, fakes are here to stay, and education is the only defense.
As for the guy selling this one, I'm going to shoot him an email letting him know the jig is up. In addition I'll let Ebay know, and ask the seller a question. If he answers, it will be posted for everyone to see. Check out the auction here...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7421507934&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:US:1

Now get this -- the auction price is only at around $15, but...he wants over $300 for shipping from China!! Now maybe $315 is not a bad price for this guitar if it plays well, and if he was in the USA I might take a chance on it...but China is a long way to have to deal with a problem.

Like I said earlier, I have a couple of knockoffs... a Stellar I bought off Ebay, really kind of good for the $100 bucks it cost me, and a REALLY nice Agile LP Goldtop with 3 P-90's that I got from Rondo Music in New Jersey. That guitar amazes me and everyone that sees it with the sound and quality for $199! I've also got a bastard Strat, but my pride and joy will always be the SG Standard I bought brand new in 1970 for $325 with the money I made working at Mcdonalds when I was in 10th grade.

Thanks everyone - I can tell I'm going to have a good time here.

At $15 I'd buy 3 or 4 for stage trim or do a Who tribute thing, but the $300 S & H would kill that idea................

Weas is right about the new guitar players and getting ripped off by a guit that starts falling apart. That is truly sad. Maybe the most important thing is to not tell them which guitar is best, but to teach them how to tell a rip-off..........................
