I'm just curious whether it's possible to add binding on to a current model SG Special neck. In my hands, a bound or unbound SG neck feels much the same so for me this is really a costmetic issue. Can it be done? Easy / difficult? Would the neck need to somehow removed from the body? etc. Interested to hear any thoughts on this.

It's possible. You will need to take the frets out, and removing the fretboard as well will make it easier. Just check out some of the repairs BW has posted about. He's done it plenty I think.

Any idea how much putitng some binding on a neck would cost (ball park) if I bring it to a professional to do it? Any risk of damage to the neck of the guitar if it or the fret board needs to be removed to have the binding put on? Will I need a refret if I did this?

On a slightly different note (this is all part of an ongoing project to cosmetically transform my current model SG Special), is it possible to replace the gold stencil lettering "Gibson" logo with some mother of pearl inlay in the letters? Anyone tried this? Is there any copyright / license issues that one needs to be aware of if this was to be done?

contact SG Lou he knows all the ins and outs concerning those matters, and he could tell you where to get the logo etc. he might even be willing to do it for you (at a price though, but it will be a top notch job O0)

Is it worth it to you? After you have the headstock changed and the binding put on you might have been able to buy a Standard if you sold the Special and put the mod money forth. :)

Sure, that's really the issue I guess. Binding and modding the headstock is all cosmetic stuff that I CAN live without but it's nice and if it's feasible cost wise, I'd do it.
