Hi:
Since some time ago I was thinking about swaping the bridge pickup of my 13 standard.
Sounds great now, not so good when I bought it.
My main issue is that I need something with a littlle more output. the 57 classic sound wonderfull but I need something like a 498t output
I was thinking of putting an old JB I have on another les paul.
Someone did tried it before?
On the net everyone says its a no no, but I dont see why it cant work.

I put a JB and a Jazz in my Jackson. I ended up taking them out. The JB and Jazz are very bright pickups. It may work fine, but I found it to be too bright for my taste. Of course, I did not try it in an SG, but those are my impressions.

I will say this, a LOT depends on your rig. A p'up that sounds good into one rig may sound bad into another, and vice versa.

I have both of those pickups in my home built SG and like smitty_p said, they are brite but I find myself using the tone control more which gives me an extended range.

I really like the Jb treble and lead tones it cuts great.
But I cant do Jb as there just isn't enough bottom end for me.

I have a SD JB/ 59 in my modded 07 SG Classic. The solid mahogany body and neck tame the brightness of the JB. Great tone with a Sprague .033 orange drop cap, and Gibson vintage spec 500k pots.

I've heard mixed reports on the JB in an SG

On the other hand if you want a beefy pickup I've heard only good things about the DiMarzio Super Distortion in an SG, and they seem to be relatively cheap. Wouldn't use one in the neck though

The Super Distortion is interesting. What do you like for a neck pickup with it?

Depends on the SG. Some of mine (i have 5) sound like ass with a JB in the bridge, but in the two that it does sound good in, they kick serious butt, more mid-range than icepick bright.

I have a JB on my Jackson RR5, I really like it, more versatile than you would expert, cant imagine it on my SG tough but I feel it would not be the right choice. I would choose a more equilibrated on frequencies pu...obviously it depends on wich sound you would like to obtain and wich Music you want to play.

Talkin about di Marzio super distortion I have it in neck position in my RD Custom and I like it, warm but quite aggressive Tone.
I think Im gonna find a substitute for the neck and put it in bridge position taking out that orrible sounding Di Marzio X2N..I just cant stand it.

I've had them in the bridge of a Les Paul, a hacked up Melody Maker, an Ibanez, a Dean, and now in a Wilshire. I think they sound great in anything they find a home in. They can take a ho-hum guitar and make it fun as hell to play. Excellent sustain, and pick attack.

I usually play with loads of gain.
not on the metal side, its more fuzzy overdrive.
I dont use overdrive or fuzz pedals, its the soak channel of my carvin nomad wich sounds great after some easy mods.
the thing is that the classic 57 of the bride sounds superv but I would like to have some more output, a little more, like the 498t ( this pickups got tje right amount of output for my style).
I think im not going to try the jb after all the feedback.

For what it's worth, I did a blind pickup choice test not so long ago between various SG and one of them had the JB. It was actually one of the more liked of the bunch. You can listen to the samples and see the poll here: http://www.everythingsg.com/threads/pickup-demo-comparison-pick-your-favourite.29075/

I have the opossite reaction with the JB: I like it, but I think it has too much bass for me. Well, not too much per se, but too loose and flabby, not really tight. The Super Distortion, while being a darker pickup, has the same cut but a more natural and even sound, IMO. Not a super tight low-end either, but more so than the JB. You can't get it with a normal looking nickel cover, though.

I have a DSD kicking around that I plan on trying out in my SGJ as I am not entirely happy with the 490T that is currently in the bridge position. I play mostly classic rock type stuff with a splash of clean thrown in. I will report back when I have tried it out.
