erm guys I think such difference is only noticable (or atleast a lot more) on Single Coils. HB however have a greater range of pickup-area. if you see what I mean....

You mean in the pics of Angus? Those are in about late 1979/early 80, which pre-dates the Celeb by a decade or two..
Or also, in the case of both, take a look at the headstock/fretboard inlays: big block, and a first fret inlay instead of trapezoid with a Custom headstock.

Maybe not exactly classic styling but here is my 24 fret SG with a 25.5" scale neck.
