I have a Peavey Transfex Pro 212S. It's 130W and i want to add a either a 2x12 or 4x12 cab to it. would it be better to buy a cab that is rated at a little bit lower watts, or or a little bit higher... like should i buy a 100w or 200w cab... i havn't seen any 150's... Also would a 4x12 be a bit too much for the 130w amp, since it's already pushing the 2 12's that the combo has in it...

would i be better off getting a 4x12 to add to the 2x12 it already has, or would that be too much for the amp to make it sound good and have nice volume to it?

IMHO, never too much speaker... unless... the impedance (ohms) are screwed up.

There is a theory there about cone movement and breakup and all this sort of stuff... I dont totally subscribe to it, except on small amps with small speakers where its obvious that the cone is flabbin around.

So if you want BIG sound, adding a 4x12 aint a bad thing. Keeping the 2x12 and actually having the amp positioned right (but still facing the stage, can help you as a pseudo monitor too.

well i am not looking to do this right now... me and my friend have been playing together and have been having talks of making a band together... figured if we do that, i might need a lil more than just the 2x12... but as of right now i'm just playing in my room, and the 2x12 is more than enough for that... guess i'll just do more research about what to do about this, if the band thing gets n e where...

there's nothing wrong with 2x12.... Fender Twin Reverb's will blow you outta the place, and they're "only" 2x12
