Hey all,
Well, my long awaited pickups and electronics arrived.
I bought (on eeeeeebay) brand new set of 490/498's and Gibson electronics straight out of a late 2004 SG! Which is just perfect to fit in my Epi Vintage G400! Sweeeeet.
Minor problem is I'm going to have to make the holes for the switches and jack about 1 mm larger in diameter since Gibson uses a wider thingy...(sorry for the untechinical term)....not a problem though.
Question is.....(since most of the electronics are prewired (ie. cap's all wired up to the pots and all grounded nicely).....but Im gonna need a wiring schematic if possible! do any of you guys happen to have any schematics...epsecially Gibson ones? The wiring that has been done was done by Gibson (obviously) (The dude literally just took the knobs off, and took out all the elecronics (minus pups and switch) in one nice convenient package for me.
Either way....my request is for a schematic or few. Thanks guys.

By the way...In case ur wondering, I paid $190 canadian for both pickups and Gibson electronics..........if i bought them in store, each pickup is $170 and electronics would have cost me another 50-70.....so total of near 400!!! I saved quite a bit!
Now I gotta buy a new switch to replace the epi....and new knobs since the Epi ones do not fit.
Pictures will come sooner or later.

And one more stupid question.......
Its kinda hard to tell which is the bridge and which is the neck pup.
Im guessing that the GibsonUSA engravings should be upright...and all is right.
Any tips or am I right?

Hey all,
Here are some pictures:

There's the pic of the total package

There's the picture of the pots and caps......that wire on the right continues to...

I am very confused with the wiring that Gibson has done. I have never seen anything like this in any schematic, I've ever seen.
Look close at which terminals the caps are attached to.....it would technically be the bottom one on one pot, then the top on the other...never seen anything like this.
And look which terminals are grounded....middle one on one pot and bottom one on the next.
Any of you seen this before??? Confusing!

Thanks for the pics ess....
But unfortunately none of these pics (well, one from the cavity pics thread) matched the schematic with the caps attached to the end terminal on both vol and tone pots.
Any ideas anyone?

See these two pics:

AND

Those both appear to be how the wiring was done for the electronics I have. Any of you seen this before? It seems to be a pretty simple schematic.
Any ideas what this wiring gives though? Independent controls if on middle switch??
If you've seen and schematics like this....they would be MUCH appreciated.

One more sort of off topic question. Someone said to buy a certain type of sauter....and not to use the other kind. Which one should I use for guitar electronics? I'm good with electronics and such, but someone mention there was a special kind. Thanks.

The cap should always be on the same terminal as the hot (center) from the pickup (on a two wire pickup).

You can go pickup hot to the center of the pot, or to the end of the pot, just make sure both are the same.

That is.... in the picture above its pretty much "factory" but you can reverse the braid and black hot lead, moving the cap too, and that will also work, and give you a bit more control in the center toggle switch position.

Sorry to sound ignorant......I get most of what you say...but can you elaborate on the reversing of the braid and black hot lead thing?
Thanks CB!

That above works too.

Look at that last control cavity pic, and you'll see the center wire from each pickup going to the middle of the pot. Thats the standard way.

I said reverse braid and center... and I was half asleep... thats wrong! Sorry, what meant to say was reverse the center and end of the pot. Like in that pic above. Either works.... as long as you keep that capacitor on the same terminal as the center wire from the pickup.

I see I see!
Well thanks for the advice guys! You're all a big help.

One more question...
Electrical tape? Good insulator? Obviously heat shrink tubing is better, but electrical tape??
