I've had my Melody Maker for 52 years, so it is well relicked. I suggest you use it as a model for your relic job:

hi...

i have one of these as well (a chinese one)
and would recommend the following for upgrade:

-light sand the neck for better playability ( not so sticky)
-some lemon oil for the fretboard
-a new nut (tusq or bone)
-whole set up of bridge/tailpiece
(eventually exchange to another brand, though mine work well)
-new switchcraft jack and toggle switch
-pick up upgrade as your likes (di marzio, p 90 etc..)

those are sweet guitars and with a little work "decent rockers"

i like the grover tuners , just changed the buttons to nickel tulip ones

hey dub-setter nice Sg there mate i was acually thinking of adding a p94 as well but wondering if its a good idea because bridge and middle wil be 57+ and 57s (removing them from my gibson lp since i bought bareknuckles) so im wondering if the p94 would be too high of output?

Damn Wav ur Bbay is pretty close to mine. 57 in April.
I posted a comment here a while back about how there's a bunch of us old fart fretters in this juke joint.

As far as the getting back on subject. I'm not real hip on taking a perfectly good guitar that looks new and scuffing it up to make it look old.
Don's example is how I believe an instrument should be treated. However it is not my instrument to tinker with and anyone should be able to enjoy it any way they want to.

hi...

as the p94 is not so fat sounding like
a humbucker,
i don t see a problem in combination with the 57´s..

i put a duesenberg domino in the neck,
very articulate and good harmonics.

the stock pu was nt so bad either,
just a bit too bassy and undefined.

That was meant as a joke. Sorry it didn't come through that way.
It's a beautiful guitar and someone will be a happy camper buying it as is.

Hi there nice SGs judging by peoples reactions to the ivory customs as I have one myself people either think their cool or they think awful but we all like SGs round here so who cares I've got a friend who likes SGs but not the 3 pickup as hi might interfere with his strumming I mean cmon guys is that the biggest load of nonsense or what?
Anway back to the relic, if say no because mine got knocked off its stand by some idiot and I took it done big chunks of paint and poly I cover it with nail varnish or paint but I hated seeing it damage so I decided to sand the damaged areas BAD IDEA WHICH I REGRET!
