Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get (or could help me out by tracing and sending me a scan) a tracing of a 61 SG Jr Pickguard? Anything would help me out (rough dimensions, etc). Any info is appreciated as I'm trying to clone a 61 special as my next "project" and I have no pickguard to work with.

Thanks in advance!

Email this guy. He made my PG for my 70' SG Special and is a pleasure to deal with. He's an Ebay regular with an impecible track record.

Thanks for the tip Moonjul. That might be what I'll end up doing.

I was just trying to save some $$ by locating a tracing and doing it myself. Dazbootman charges about $30 for a guard.

For $10 I can buy the blank material and for another $10 I could buy the router bit I need to bevel/cut the edge. Plus...I'd have the tools to make more pickguards in the future and leftover material to make the backplate for my daughter's mini-LP.

What do you need a pickguard for? A '61 SG Jr?? Actually, most of the stuff I make isn't to make money but only to save it. I've been building effects pedals since it's much cheaper to build an uber-quality boutique pedal than to buy one. I also found that it's much less expensive to build guitars than buy one of comparable quality. I also think it's fun (although somewhat masochistic) to complete a project from a bunch of raw parts so I like the challenge of cutting the pickguard myself. If you need one let me know and maybe we can work something out.

I've had custom pickguards (as well as custom pickups) made by Pete at Vintage Vibe Guitars and he does a great job for a reasonable price. You could probably contact him if you need a pickguard made, and he'll do custom ones from your template.

So far I've made a Dallas Rangemaster, Mu-Tron, Delay, TS-808, MXR Dist+, MXR Blue Box, Orange Squeezer, Small Clone, Tonebender 2 and 3 knob, and true bypass box with discrete buffer. If you need any advice or help on sourcing parts and/or etching circuit boards send me a PM. It's great making your own boxes as you can finish them however you like, add features and mods, and use better quality components for lower noise and true bypass.

All the schematics and info you could ever hope for can be found at:
www.diystompboxes.com
www.generalguitargadgets.com
www.tonepad.com
www.smallbearelec.com
www.geofex.com
and also Fuzz Central (not sure of the URL but you can find it in a search).

-Hope that helps!

Gotcha SG. I didn't realize you wanted to make your own PG.

I also didn't know that Pete of VVG made them. I do know he makes great P90's, though. He gave me a bridge P90 to try for free. As an owner of a 70' SG Special with 90's, Pete's really got it down, and obviously a very generous guy.

Maybe after this post, he'll send me a neck pup too. ;)

Pete wound the P90's for my "SG LP jr/Special" and I love them. Sadly though, I had to $pay$ for them... :(
