I want a chromatic tuner for my pedalboard. Which one should I get?

Go for a cheap but rugged one. They are all pretty much as accurate as each other these days. Don't fall for the strobe accuracy nonsense. You can see the tuning change with the way you stand on any tuner, and a strobe won't make that any better.

My local store has the Boss TU-3, and it seems to be quite popular. Is it a good choice?

I use a TC Electronics Polytune Mini. The chromatic mode is very good. I don't use the polyphonic mode much

I have also used the full size Polytune. It has more features and can run on batteries.

I've been using those since they were the TU-2. Built like a tank, very dependable and you
can plug a set of extensions into it and power your whole paddle board from there.

The LED is very visible in almost any kind of light (except bright sun). If you play on outdoor
stages in bright sun, you can make a folding shade out of Gaffer's Tape, or cardboard and duck tape
and stick in on to cast a shadow on your LED so you can see it. Sound man usually has a roll of
this.

I also learned (the hard way) that some polarized sunglasses will make the LED invisible.
(if you have to take them off when you run a gas pump, don't wear them onstage)
Nothin' like going onstage on a sunny day with a brand new set of sunglasses and wondering
why your equipment doesn't work. *shrugs

But I've had great service from my boss tuners. I like the fact that when you stomp that pedal
you are out of the P.A. system. So I use it on my acoustic's pedal board as an
on/off switch. And my acoustic doesn't sit there and hum when I'm playing a different instrument.
