A 61 Reissue is my main axe, but I am going to either get a Classic white Flying V, or an SG Classic as a backup. Which guitar do you think would compliment the 61 RI better to represent the best representation of different tones?

I really like V's, they sound nice. So far a V was the best metal guitar I ever put an EMG 81 into, even better than my Les Paul.

Get something with P-90's! A classic, lp jr, sg jr, or melody maker all sound different than humbuckers. Nothing looks cooler than a vintage white flying V with a maestro$$$ but it probably won't be that dramatically different sounding from your current humbucker sg. For less than 400 the limited epiphone firebird studio's are a bargain but I'm not sure about those dial tuners.

The Classic would certainly represent a different tone against the '61 SG, as compared to a V. If you want complete polar opposites that cover the whole spectrum, then a Fender Strat would be the way to go. With single coils, of course.

I agree! My Tele is the perfect complement to my SG Pro. And Teles are purer than Strats.

If you decide to go Gibson, I concur with the people who say you should get something with P-90s. The SG Classic would be a good choice but so would that '60 RI LP Special.

I tried to like teles a couple times, I really did. But they just don't do it for me, I don't like the look, the feel, the sound of a tele. I guess I'm the minority there.

I have the same problem with strats.....

I'd say go for the classic with P-90's its a great alternative to the HB equipped SG.
