Hi Guys,

Quick question, I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to Amps and Cabs, but I've got a guy offering a used 4x12" Framus Cobra amp with the following specs:

Framus Cobra Cab:
Power rating: 100 Watt / 8 ohms / 110dB (mono) or 2 x 50W / 2 x 16 ohms / 107dB (stereo)
4 x 12" Celestion G12M Greenback 25 speaker (25W, 8 ohms, 98dB, frequency range 75-5000Hz, resonant frequency 75Hz)

The Micro Dark webpage says it'll support: 1 X 8-16 OHM Cabinet, Rated at 20 Watts or greater.

Thanks!
Hector

The beach.
It'll not only work with it, it will sound glorious doing it. That is one hell of a nice cabinet if all the speakers are working in it. Those are some of the best speakers ever.

Great, thanks gball!

I saw the price... each speaker is about $200 over here, the cab itself is the price of only two of the speakers!

I've been assured that all is in order. Think I'm going to pull the trigger...

Cheers!

I've seen (and heard) a Blackstar 1 watt amp drive a Marshall 4x12 cabinet into aural extasy! I'm sure it will do what you want and more!

Well, quick update.. the seller was very odd... they insisted on shipping the amp (cost would have been around $150 extra).. So I decided to pass, I'm guessing there's something wrong with it...

Oh well, I'll keep looking for a cheap 4x12...

With the Orange Micro Dark, you can run just about any cab, especially if it's 8 Ohms resistance.
My Micro Terror runs a 1/12 cab just fine, even though that's 16 Ohms. But my favorite sound with it
is from a home made cab running 1/10 and 1/12 at 8 Ohms.
April & Orange tall rig@100.JPG
The little amp will run two cabs in parallel
and I stack one on top of the other with the Orange on top of those.
The small cab on top runs one 8 ohm 8" speaker. The larger cab runs
two 4 Ohm speakers in series to make 8 Ohms, and running both in
parallel makes 4 Ohms load on the amp.

Sorry about all the techno babble, this is just to show how versatile these little amps
are, and how good they sound with various speakers and cabs.

I don't think you need to feel too bad about not getting the half stack. Your instinct seems
to have spoken right. It likely was not a great deal. Too good to be true. Those are fine
speakers, but so huge and cumbersome that they are obsolete IMHO. Others here will disagree
with me... but I believe that changes in the technology have really made carrying huge and heavy boxes
around unnecessary now.

My mini-stack looks a bit ridiculous perhaps... but the cool thing is how adaptable it is. I can take the small cab
and the Micro Terror to a practice session, without any trouble. For a gig where I want to move more air,
I can use the larger cab, and since I usually plug the rig into the P.A. anyway, I don't need more than this.

When I plug my pedal board into the P.A. and run the signal through the mixing board to the mains, it sounds huge
and I don't need to carry anything big. So the amp is just an onstage monitor. That's the beauty of the small
technology. It's a lot easier on your back.
