Been trying to thin the herd down to three guitars and ran across this Ebony 2005 SG Special Faded that I did not need to see. I had been wanting an Ebony SG Special Faded for some time. I drove an hour and half to handle it in person to see if it had the right neck profile and it did so it followed me home. Always try before you buy.

Cleaned it up, changed strings, did a setup and peeked under the hood and discovered it had same employee initials on the pot as my 2003 SG Special Faded with moon inlays.

Very nice, and looks in very good shape!

Can I ask you if there's a reason behind having just Specials of that period?

Congrats, such a nice family!

Thanks!
I prefer the faded finish vs the gloss because of the feel. I searched out these years because of the ebony boards. The original SG Faded Special from 2002-2004 had ebony boards. My first experience with one was last year when I found my used 2003 SG Special Faded with moon inlays. I liked it so much I wanted a second one just like it, but with dot inlays set up for different tuning. I eventually got a third one. Each guitar is setup for different tuning. (E, E-flat, C#)

Gibson SG special faded is one of the best IMHO...
Gibson sold boatloads of these for about ten years, and then incontinently discontinued the
model. I fell in love with mine, head over heels in 2008. Now it's two thousand effing eighteen
and I still feel the same way.

Best neck, excellent tone, inexpensive price, mine has been modded extensively with
all the best of everything I could buy or make... kind of like buying nice clothes for a
lovely woman, who looks great in any darn thing... or nothing.

Some people love the elegance of the standard, with the binding and the nibs and the deep
Gibson gloss, and the pineapple inlay and the trapezoids and all of that. But not me.
I love the stripped down look of the workingman's SG. Moons or dots, they're all great.
Ebony or Rosewood, both play fine.

Setting them up for different tunings seems like a great idea... and a fine way to have more
than one of the same kind of guitar without feeling any redundancy.

Redundancy... is that a word we use on this forum? ...maybe not. *grins
I like the yellow and black one.

Is there a FAQ about ETSG math?
I guess I'll thin out the herd so 3+1 = 2 sets. Mission accomplished. I like the math but the calculator on my phone keeps getting the answer wrong.

Nice score, however I don't see any P-90's represented...........

Nice! I wasn't aware of the ebony faded. Love the look of the gloss black pickguard over a satin black body.

Number of guitars needed = n + 1
I sold my 2016 Special T with P-90's last week.

The ebony Faded are rare, but out there. Discovered them by accident. Going to install chrome pup covers and change the knobs to black with silver inserts like the others.

I need to get me a Special someday with some sort of wraparound and P-90s. What happened to your 2016 Specials? That Ebony one is beautiful as well :D

I sold the cherry 2016 Special T with P-90's last week. The ebony 2016 Special T with mini-hums is for sale. The cream 2000 Special with ebony board is for sale but having doubts about letting it go. Trying to focus more on playing instead of collecting.

Gibson let me just say i found a Guitar that Slaps you right in the Mouth..its a 2008 Jay Turser JT50 Custom fully bound..Gold Hardware..14:1 stock tuners..the quality of Craftsmanship is incredible..professional quality all the way..tone and feel is Amazing sorry Gibson we don't have to spend 1,500 dollars anymore to have a professional quality and playing SG guitar the JAY Turser JT50 Custom proves that.
This is a guy posting about a guitar he just bought. Do you really want to get off on a bad foot with the rest of the forum on your second post?

we don't get too many jerks bad mouthing an NGD post on this forum.
But there's always somebody who'll try and be one-up.

It doesn't work. He just sounds like a jerk. *boot
and since the price of the Jay Tursor SG shaped object is
$219.00 on Reverb, the slap is aimed at Epiphone.

I like this thread actually, with all the great pictures.

Now tell everyone:
Did you notice any tonal difference after you put the covers on?
