For my first post on this board, I'll contribute a few pictures I took Saturday at the NAMM show in Anaheim. All the guitars I photographed were pretty good, here are a few thoughts:

1. The neck on the Angus Young model, being narrower and rounder than my 61 Reissue SG, felt very comfortable to me. A very nice guitar.

2. The Frank Zappa guitar is interesting, it would have been cool to be able to listen to it plugged in with the switches that Frank had installed in his Special. The guitar feels very nice as well.

3. The Original looks nice but feels a little different and more like a production model, which it is, as opposed to "Custom" guitar. It is basically a (now discontinued) 61 Reissue with an added Vibrola.

4. As cool as Vibrolas look, I think their place in the Universe may be more for aesthetic purposes than than anything else. :)

5. All of these guitars "balance funny" to me -- disclaimer: I am new to the SG world. Some have the Vibrolas, others have the neck strap button further towards the headstock, etc., but they all feel a bit unstable.

I was also at NAMM on Saturday and the new Gibsons looked really great. I didn't see the Zappa or Angus though because of how many people were in the Gibson room. The new Epi SGs have thin bevels just like the Gibsons and are way lighter than before.

Yeah It looks pretty awesome. The one G-400 pro they had out was really great looking and feeling. A noticeable improvement from what I have.

I just said to my wife about the bevel change and I want one, she just rolled her eyes a said "here we go again, who do I have to kill".....lol

In your opinion have they fixed the neck heavy issue? In other words did it feel better balanced to you?

I couldn't tell any difference in balance but it is definitely overall lighter now. With the thinner bevels it might even be more neck heavy now but hopefully not.

As I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I recently bought a new G-310 and it has the Gibson bevels plus a nice slimmer than usual neck. Actually it's the best G-310 I've ever had and gets a lot of playing time. Oddly enough the G-400's are still unchanged.

Aww, I love the green! If I were to get one of those I'd be hard pressed to choose between the green and the orange, but it was the green that originally drew me in.

I think I'd go for an original first though.

Thanks for sharing man, cool pics!

And that green thing, I like 'em but I'd prefer the red.
