We're not big on reading on this forum, especially when it comes to sheet music.

Hey, my esteemed friend, please speak for yourself! A few of us like sheet music an awful lot.

But we do all like pictures.

Guitar Melody in B Minor - YouTube

Holy sh!t, that was a pretty awesome video Dave, Jeez. I don't know where to begin? Well the guitars sure look great and an SG copy with 57's?...Sweet! Nice colour and very red. That guitar looked high gloss underneath that lighting. And, oooh, the 175 looks really awesome! Reminds me of Ted Nugent's Gibson Byrdland guitar he had back in the 70's. I guess Steve Howe must have played one of these also? Your tele copy looks great, but where's the P90? Maybe that was before you modded it. And oh, the guitar faces you made...:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2: I also assume that is your wife on bass guitar & bass fiddle? I bet she wakes up every morning & says, why is my husband so handsome!:hmm: The music was very catchy & the drummer really held it together. Dave, I envy you because you have made music your career and it's a job I bet you love to death. I'm in my 40's and I worked in warehouses most of my working days and that kind of job kills your spirit! I had a chance to join a band a little while back, but my wife wouldn't allow me. It really pissed me off, but there is still hope.:( And you're enjoying all that California sun while I'm stuck in this dark, bleak, cold & dreary city of Oshawa where everyone walks around with tombstones in their eyes. Dave, that was a great video and I really enjoyed. Thanks a lot for posting and it was very inspirational. I think I'll bookmark this page.:fingersx::dude:

Thanks for enjoying the video; I too worked in offices and warehouses along the way, so I sympathize.

My wife was not the string bassist, that was a friend, Daney, my wife is a drummer, and she edited the video.

But the drums on the video are by Dan Albrecht, another friend and great musicians.

Yes, the Tele was yet to be modded!

Oh - I live in the cool often rainy part of the North CA coast so no need to envy my weather.

Dave, I got my guitar in my hand & I just learned the guitar riff to your Bm melody. Ha, it feels good to learn a new song, especially that one. So you're up in Bo Biddlin territory. He just PM'ed me a few days ago telling me to stop sending cold weather down to northern California. Actually southern Ontario where I live is along the same latitude as northern California, so technically we should be getting the same exact weather.:hmm::hmm:

I think he's further inland - I'm on the coast.
I'm glad you like the tune enough to learn a riff from it.

We're overdue making new videos.

Welcome, and we need pictures!:photos: We're not big on reading on this forum, especially when it comes to sheet music. We love pictures. Congrats NGD.:applause:

I have pictures - now trying to get them smaller (3 MB a time is probably too big for the forum)

Are you making excuses?:hmm::applause: I know what you mean. I just set the camera up to take a lower pixel shot so you can upload it. It still turns out good.

I read the first OP and a few other posts after that. IMO there are two ways to go. Either realize how much you enjoy playing this guitar, if it's "the one" that "spoke" to you and you've bonded with it or return it and get a an SG Classic which is obstensibly the same guitar only with perfectly color-coordinated red-black-white scheme and rosewood fingerboard (I think the P-90 Standards have baked maple fingerboards). IMO there are few guitars that possess the simplistic beauty of the Classic which is modeled after the '60s SG Special that Townsend played famously. I personally much prefer the pearloid dot markers to the trapezoids and also very much prefer the white neck binding. You will have to spring extra for a HS case if you go with the Classic though. I just got a 2006 with the black faux lizard skin Gibson SG OHSC with the grey lining and shroud for a very good price and I am in heaven!

Here's a photo of a Classic. It's not mine but it looks just like mine and I can't take a photo this nice:

so... back to the OP's original question:
@John... do you think that the OP's problem is only some bleed from the paint or dye, and if he had somebody buff it some more the binding would revert to proper white? could he do it himself with some fine grade sandpaper or steel wool?

Or is he stuck with that color because Gibson is using pink binding (which doesn't make sense to me). I don't have any guitar but one that has binding, and the one I have with binding is a 1966 Fender, so I am curious about this phenomenon on behalf of our other members.

@dave: awesome video, yes indeed.. very tasty.

These P-90 Standards look like Gibson was using regular humbucker Standard bodies and necks and putting P-90s on them to help blow them out with the rest of the 2012 SG Standards with "torrified maple" fingerboards. And that is what the description says on the sites that have sold them in terms of the fingerboard. And they definitely have the pink neck binding that comes on all SG Standards. It is pink plastic - not white underneath the lacquer. BTW, the guitar in the product photo below is a gorgeous guitar, pink binding or not, so if this is what you're guitar looks like and you enjoy playing it remember this: just like people, no guitar is perfect. You can always find something wrong. Better to accept certain tolerable imperfections and enjoy life (and your guitar).

Sometimes that plastic has a color, and for some reason the SG gets pink. I've learned not let it bother me on Gibsons.

Col Mustard, thanks!

Most modern Gibson USA Les Paul Standards have the pink plastic not only on the neck binding but everywhere. Here's a photo of a vintage '65 SG Special that has neck binding that has turned creme-colored with age which contrasts with the stark white stripes in the pickguard. I certainly wouldn't think twice about this one!

The binding turns yellow because it has nitro laquer , the pickguard and nut doesnt.

Thats really not an answer to why Gibson uses the coloured binding on a new guitar that isnt a reissue of some kind, but they do.

Its a good question , but almost all models seem to have it?

The colour of the plastic on new Gibsons is more than often wrong, the tuner tips have a green tint that isnt on the originals , and the creme stuff turns to pink sometimes, they should be able to get that right , at least on the reissues.

My latest SG standard bought new had chrome hardware , except for the tuners that were nickel....

The 61 reissue I bought 2011 new had chrome hardware ..... which came about in 1966.

Hey Black, I'm pretty sure you're about 5 degrees North of my latitude . I'm roughly 140K inland and and about 160K South of David . Currently 6.1c and rain here . The nearby creek has been toying with lawns and fences across the street, almost reaching porches and front doors, for days . Still, I guess that's balmy compared to -7c . Stay warm ! Biddlin ;>)/

I apologize for sending all that bad weather down over to California, Biddlin. I think it's a government conspiracy by the current regime that occupies the current high office here. They want to plan a full takeover of North America. Some countries have warfare...we have weatherfare!:wow::naughty::hmm::cheers:
