Hi guys av got an epiphone sg with vabtato and I always use earnie ball 9s but the sg keeps snapping the g string I think it is, I mainly used 9's for string bend, have no other problem on my other guitars with 9's.

Aye Alan it's snapping right at the bridge, so you thing the roller bridge will help m8, I thought it was just cause I use such a light gauge of strings.

Take a look at the saddle to see if it has a burr or sharp edge on it. This can easily break a string when you use a trem. A roller bridge will be smooth and roll with the string instead of the string sliding over it.

oh and i need to get one of those epi customs with the vibrola mmmm

They are deffinately sweet! I was lucky enough to nab one used...except the thing was obviously not played very much at all. Still had the protective plastic on the pickguard and the factory strings! :wow:

Anyways, my only issue with it was that it kept detuning when I played with the vibrola, thinking it was just the strings just needed to be changed. I put earnie ball high E string 12's on it and don't have any issues with it anymore...I mean you still can't really dive bomb it and expect it to stay in tune, but I can give it a good wank and the strings behave and stay in tune :thumb:

Yeah, Jim, it's likely a bur on the bridge saddle that's cuttin' your string. That can be solved with some emery paper and a couple of strokes.
I do, however recommend a roller bridge. I've recently installed them on my some of my Maestro and Bigsby equipped guitars and they did improve the perfomance of the instruments, most dramatically with my Epiphone Wildkat. The greater benefit to the SGs is less back and forth pull, on the bridge studs.

12s? :wow:Key Riced!
If you need a work-out go to the gym! :laugh2:
Seriously, I use 9s and even 8s on these, without issues.
(I have a 7-32 set on my Strat, right now, that is brilliant. Floating the tremolo is critical, though.)

I may have overlooked the possibility that you play in one of those subterranean tunings so popular among those with high frequency deficits, these days, in which case 12s are fine and handy to use as leader on your marlin rig.

LOL I honestly just like the thicker tone they give, on this guitar I play in standard or sometimes tune it down half a step, depending on what I feel like.

I using the ones from the links I showed, on my Epis. So far they are fine, as is all the gear I've seen from that site. I don't know if they ship internationally or not.
Tonepros,
mlUR-1I-Le5qUypohlsLUQA.jpg

which run around $50-60 usd, here, so I've no idea how dear, there, is good gear.
For reference:
String spacing is 52mm. Post spacing is standard 74mm.
with 6.5mm diameter posts.

I don't know where the tonepros are made, but the company headquarters is here in California. I know a lot of the guys here use them.
