I've polished up some faded finish guitars too. Amazing what a difference a couple hours of work can make on the finish. Rockerbilly, love the look of your G400. Kinda looks like tiger stipes. :thumb:

When I worked with the late Jimmy Foster, I found out that he and his family were guitarists, but began doing auto painting and little by little began refinishing, then repairing, then making guitars!

No wonder so many finishing tricks come via our buddies in the garage.

I think the rockabilly world is where cars, guitars, tattoos, and great flame and pinstripe designs come together; very cool style, just not mine! (sorry, no ink anywhere)

I was very impressed at the NAMM show by a rockabilly slap style upright bassist who had a bass finished with the most beautiful automotive design and detailing I'd ever seen in that context. Plus he could slap the hell out of that bass. And he had very colorful tats.

Gretsch guitars and slap-back echo anyone?

Absolutely!!! See the Youtube video below of one of my favorite guitarists.

C'mon...Ya'll know him, and oughta love him!

Great guitar playing, tight drumming on a little kit, high-energy slap bass, and a very talented and entertaining orchestra.

Sorry, no SG content, but still immensely cool.

Nice video but a little long for that song imho. Good chops on guitar though and looked like the audience was really into it. Im a fan of the 3min 30 songs myself.

Hey, that had everything I was talking about! Pinstripe finished Gretsch guitars, echo unit (old roland?) on a Fender amp, flame finishes on the bass AND the rarely-seen "cocktail set" of drums.
Even bass spinning and walking as part of the shtick.

I wasn't so sure about the de-tuned section of the solo, but Brian *was* working the crowd so it was more about the show, which was first-rate, like that band.

Got my tube of Flitz today. Gonna have Burla do a striptease this weekend so I can rub her body down, adorn her with some gold and do a liitle open heart surgery while she is nekkid :wow:

there you go again, talkin' dirty... but I want to see some photos of your guitar when you're satisfied. i mean completely satisfied... and I still want to know if the stuff has silicone in it. plus, I want to see Brian S play an SG. I'll bet he would sound a lot better. ~( :^D ...don't ya think? I just don't get Gretsch guitars for some reason, not that he can't rock my socks off with one, as could G. Harrison back in the day.

After Flitz, replacing pups with Iron Gear Dirty Torque pup on the bridge and Iron Gear Blues Engine on the neck, gold switch, bridge and stop bar, added push/pull coil splitting pots and orange drop caps. The only Chinese electrical part remaining is the plug and that will be replaced with a gold one eventually. Gonna replace the tuners with gold someday also. I work in the jewelry business so I'm gonna have the chrome screws gold plated to match the rest of the metal.

turned out nice. Not quite a gloss finish but much nicer than the regular faded and shows off the grain better too. congrats!

Actually it has much more gloss than the camera picked up. The only bad thing about it is now fingerprints show up and I have to wipe it down after playing.

small price to pay... wiping them down is good for them anyway. Course I say that and my faded special SG almost never gets wiped down and I play it just about daily now. I do change the strings every month or two but other than that, just play it and enjoy it.
