Well, here I am.

I am a casual player who used to sing in a band a long....long time ago during the early years of the Los Angeles hardcore scene, and while I was mainly a screamer I wrote our songs out while banging away on a guitar. I spend my days crafting tattoos at my studio in Colorado Springs, Colorado (see profile pic) and I have a wife who enables my G.A.S.

This is weird. I mean weird. I have not considered myself a forum kinda guy... I have owned an arsenal of great guitars, but I am not much for sharing...ya know?

But anyhoo... I just bought my first SG (after a crap-ton of years convincing myself that I was a STRATOCASTER devotee). Mainly I think it was because you could use a STRAT as a weapon against unruly and overly aggressive audience members (with minimal chance of turning it into fire-wood) then get down to business finishing a song.

But then... oh... but then.

Look, I have never had a problem with SG's... I grew up on Sabbath, AC/DC, Santana, the doors and etc. so I knew they could belt it out... but maybe they were TOO ICONIC. If you had one, you kinda stood out a little bit... I just wanted to disappear while playing and let the music stand out instead of looking like I was conjuring the devil onstage.

But then.... oh... but then.

So I was cruisin' around the web and found this thing called craigslist ( maybe you've heard 'bout it) and saw a warm brown devil shaped-git-fiddle with moon inlays sunk deep into an ebony fretboard.

I adore Iommi... always have... always will.

So I felt it. played it. threw money at the guy who didn't love her enough... took 'er for a ride and soon discovered that I am not really a STRAT kinda guy after all. (thirty years of pure Leo devotion, folks)

Now I want to share. Hell, I want to talk about it. I mean I want to get together with some sludge minded people and fuzz out, start a band of middle aged guys or gals and protest and celebrate and frighten anyone who cares to listen to us.

Man... the SG has brought up some deep feelings I thought I left behind in Los Angeles when I decided to grow up and get-uh-job.

Any-ways... I searched, I lurked, I like you guys and I am seeing if I can join up with you. I feel oddly... at home.

yeah, yeah, yeah... pics will follow... you can't just turn of the G.A.S. now can ya?

Ok, let's do 'dis...
2004 SG Special Faded, ebony fret board with crescent moon inlays. I just slapped a set of Gibby 57 classics into it (nickel) so the vanity switch has been flipped on, which is making me want to add a nickel bridge and tailpiece just so i don't have the chrome bits.

Nope... nothing wrong with the 490's that it came with...explanation comes with another pic btw... just wanted the vintage jangle with this one.

replaced the tuners with stock replacements because they had some good slop in 'em.

Might go with 50's wiring... yup will go with 50's wiring...

A small battle scar here and there with some buckle rash on back... clean frets, straight neck and I am absolutely in LOVE

This is why I replaced the 490's with the 57 classics. One week later I bought this 2002 SG Special Faded...moons and all... and it has 490's in it... the wife wanted to know why I just gave birth to twins, so I had to point out that this one had the early ABR bridge with a wire while the first one had a Nashville bridge.

That didn't impress her... so in went the nickel 57 classics into the 2004 (vs the open faced 490's in the 2002 that I want to keep stock) I belted out some clean riffs, turned on some gain and cranked out some power chords, did a few pinch harmonics between the two..

and viola... she got it. At least I think she got it. She just walked out of the room after kissing me and saying "Ooookay honey"

Well... anyhow... so the wife and I go to Omaha to visit her family last week...

Somehow, someway we decide to go pawn shopping.

2011 SG 60's Tribute in white catches my eye and it came with a vintage (late 60's) case... heck I think the case is worth more than the darned guitar.

Yup, the wife is still smiling... mainly because I am back to practicing and writing songs again and she knows she is the main reason why I have this dumb look on my face (G.A.S will bring a dull look to the eyes, ya know) She is an enabler... I said so in my first post.

Finally... the wife gets on the bandwagon and gets this bad boy for me... with one stipulation... it is the last one for a while and I have to completely mod it by doing a human rib cage design on the front and naming it "BONES".

She also said I hafta start looking for some peeps to get together with and start writing and practicing more. She really wants to see me do more than hang in my den of solitude writing music. She wants at least one basement concert so we can feel like we are fifteen again.

I think that's a fair trade

Love that white SG. Welcome to the forum. My wife is sort of the same. I'll be browsing Craig's List and find something I like. She'll say "Let's go get it". When I tell her it's two hours away she'll say "You're buying dinner then. What you waiting for? Let's go."

Welcome I really like that 60's tribute don't think I ever seen one like that either damn I never find nothing that nice in a pawn shop that doesn't have 4000 k price on a 1400 hundred dollar guitar.

Hey ESG, The guitar (in the workbench pic) is a Vantage... I think a 790 or 795.. the "Demon". I am modding it and doing some fret work. It was a pawn shop find for 40 american bux. Painted a terrible shade of blue.
Set neck (long tenon for those that care) an uncle Mat japanese 80's hunk o' wood... mahogany body and neck.

So far I have taken the paint off, worked the frets just fine, installed Seymour Duncan 59's and gibby styled 50's wiring. It is for a tattoo client of mine... heck I mods as many guitars as I do human bodies sometimes.

Future plans are some Steam-Punk brass work for the body. copper green patina finish the body... and ummm... I think that is it.

That white SG with the P-90s and the racing stripes is sick! If you ever need to cull the herd, I'll gladly take it off your hands!

Welcome to ETSG. Also your wife rocks.

Welcome, I started out with SG's then my guitar teacher asked why don't you play Fenders I thought a Strat was a cheap bolt on neck guitar
then the Les Paul's now back full circle to SG's 32 years later. I must say one of my best guitars is a 1962 Fender Esquire I can make it sound so close to my prized early 1960 Les Paul Standard why I have no idea. I was at my local music store and saw a old SG case like yours asked if I could
check it out I plugged it into a guitar amp I just repaired good God it sustained like no other I put a bid on it two hours later phone call it's yours.
The frets were gone and the fingerboard had issues it's fixed now and my main player now. Rock On......................
The black stripes looks great on the white SG. You got a good woman, Take care.
