Hello,

I'm trying to identify a guitar I bought for my daughter. Closest thing I could find is the SG Special Single Coil Limited, but the body color is wrong, as are the colors of the knobs and pups. The guitar weirdly had two pups and 2 knobs. Serial indicates 2016. Pictures attached. White background picture is the Special Single Coil Limited from the Gibson site.

could not read the serial # but if it starts w/ '16' that will be proof enough its a 2016...

just to see what...I took a look at the GIBSON Legacy Archive web-page, here:

http://legacy.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2016/USA/SG-Standard-P-90.aspx

and the closest one on the GIBSON website that has the 2016 SG Special w/P-90's but that one has the 'Bat-Wing' pick-guard...I do not see any holes on yours that would indicate the PG was removed......so imma temporarily stumped....

One of the Detectives here at ETSG will figure it out....

I think you nailed it. Limited Run Special from 2016.

I was pretty confused by it only having two knobs. Looks like someone changed out the plastics for those cream versions. People seem to like to do that as it's much easier with P-90s.

That's a great present for your daughter, I hope she is happy with it.

Thank you! Yes, she loves it. I couldn't let her use one of mine, as I'm a lefty - '74 SG Standard with the ebony fretboard, and '85 Flying V.

I figured previous owner may have changed the knobs and pickups, what threw me was the color seems to be different - described as "autumn burst" when I bought it, and doesn't quite match the color of the Limited Run Special, but who knows eh? Thanks for your help!

Tuners were changed out too. Some would say “upgraded”.
I like white button type but some people are a solution looking for a problem.

I'm also a lefty, never played a 70s Standard but as you can imagine it's not easy to get hold of too many LH SGs.

I always thought 'Autumn Burst' and 'Vintage Burst' seemed basically the same to me. I think maybe AB has more black in the burst part maybe, but if you google seems you can find many different looking examples of both.

I have a 2013 SG Future Tribute in 'Vintage Burst' looks very similar to your 'Autumn Burst', but having said all that I feel like lighter/darker woods and whomever is spraying that day make a big difference.

I hear that! I got lucky back around 1999 and picked it up for $800 at a now defunct music store in Berkeley. Your guitar is really nice, love the finish.

Gibson can be all over the place with finish names, and not infrequently mislabels finishes on their website and in catalogs. The seller probably just misremembered the finish name here, though. Yours matches the picture on their website, with slight variation that is common for Gibson.

That's a beauty!

Lots of female musicians play SGs, I think the light weight of the instrument
makes it appealing to them, because hell, I like my 3 kg SG for the same reason.
Don't we all love our light weight SGs?

Wow OP, you’re a good dad.

My daughter is 35 and wanted to start playing guitar around 2015. So we started on classical. I bought her a Ramirez student model. Then after a couple of years she wanted to do electric guitar.

I bought her a Kramer, she decided she didn’t like it, so I got her a Jem jr. see where this is headed? After changing her mind on left or right and, and her liking other colors. I bought her a right handed Ibanez AZES31. She loved it until….

Well, she kept saying that she wanted my AZES40. She hardly plays anymore. So I bought an Indio daphne blue burst Strat SSS. I did a level and crown, set it up, and she loves it. It cost 100 bux. And she can’t tell the difference. Maybe it was kind of a sick move on my part, but she’s happy and she doesn’t know the difference, and I will be damned if I am ever going to buy her another guitar.

I have bought her 7 since 2017, and losing money every time I turn around and she wants a new one. I refuse to do it anymore. If she were appreciative and actually worked at it I might buy her a Gibson. She has had two Fender’s already as well.

But she has some intellectual disabilities that make her very difficult to teach. She can’t take lessons from a normal guitar teacher.

Nobody has the kind of patience required to teach her. It took two years of note by note memorization to play a 16 bar half of an Aguado study. she asked me tonight about starting up again. I am considering it. It did wonders for her self extreme. Don’t know why I shared all that. Glad your daughter can appreciate an awesome axe.
