You'ld think that since I'm always broke. Can't buy much of anything now-a-days that I'd quit thinking about gear. Here's the deal:

Got three speakers lying around. Gonna hook 'em up to do 4 ohms so I can have a cab to work with the Fender VC XD amp. Got some great oak 1X12 that would make a great cab. My hands don't function, but Bill just built a big woodshop behind his place. He'll build the cab. I can wire it and finish it. Sounds like a plan right? It would be great for the little Fender VC XD and will make it sound wonderful. That SHOULD make me happy. Right?

Wrong! I begin to think "What if I get a small little head to prop up on top of that cab?" Hummmmm...:hmm: An Orange Micro Terror maybe.... A VHT Seecial six head...... Ohhh!!!!! Somebody stop me! Get me committed and lock me up now!!:ohno:

I'd do it Wade, but I'm stalking a Faded Special on Craigslist right now.

I'd do it but I've just bought 3 amps in as many months. And I've just discovered a new music store.

I bet you'd love a Micro Terror! Some people huff and puff about the amount of solid state in there but I know that sort of thing doesn't put you off in the slightest. I heavily considered it at one point, but the only thing that put me off was it was too low in gain for my needs, and would then be too loud with the gain maxed all the time. Also not a problem for you out thar in the woods!

Oh hang on. Weren't you telling us to stop you from buying stuff? :hmm:

nothing better than making stuff with wood so I'd say go for it! As for what to set on top of it... those little orange amps are fun but heck there are half a dozen low wattage amps that would be fun with a scratch built 1x12" cab. Read thru that cool thread that heket did and it will give you plenty of ideas.

Well the wood for the cab I already have. The front is a snap too. Bill said for me to draw up the plans and he'd build it per specs. I'd build it myself like always if my stupid hand would work right! ARRgggg...

Got a couple of nice 4 ohm 8"ers and an 8 ohm 10" to drop in this cab. And a second front baffel for a single 12" that I could interchange for that speaker choice if I wanted. Great design I thought to use a single cab with that option. I have very little space and a second cab would be too much...

So far, so good..... But the thought of a little amp head sitting on top is haunting me! :wow: I got enough stuff. I don't need anymore. I just sold the cream colour Strat to Bill today to cut down on the inventory here. I'm trying to thin the herd! What's wrong with me? :ohno: No, I gotta stop this madness. I'm tripping over gear as it is. Got another guitar that is scheduled to leave soon. Going to a great home and will be well cared for. That's good. That person deserves it far more than I do.

But that little amp head keeps floating above the cab in my mind.... Yup, I need to be committed...:hmm:

Well the guys in the white coats can take a break. I got over it. Found that the little amp I was thinking about all the time stinks when used with time based pedals. Turns them to noisy mush. So I'm all better now and will continue to thin the herd and use what I have. Fortunately, self control got the better of me. :fingersx:

Well basically I just act nuts. Really I'm quite stable for a half crippled 67 year old teenager!:naughty: But I've abanoned the cab project, as Bill is always busy with stuff that his wife wants done around his house. I've another project that I needed his help on where his steady hand would be of great help, but alas, his "duties" have removed him from assisting me there as well. So, I'll just continue to thin the herd some more and likely get it down to a couple of amps and about four guitars. Still got a bucket full of pedals, the big Zoom monster-mash thingie, and tons of little bits of stuff to keep me occupied.

Overall, I'm a happy worm!!

Wade, if I were over there I'd help you get that cab built in a heartbeat!
Sending you good vibes in the hope your hand gets better, and that Bill finds the time to help you out, bro!

Well Alex, it ain't nuthin' but a thing man. I'm going to sell one more amp and there's one guitar that I'll have leaving soon I hope. Gotta get enough cash to ship it. Then I'll be down to two amps and four guitars. That'll do just fine I think. I'm not gigging any more. Not in the business now. Yeah, that is more than enough for one guy that just plays at home now irritating his cats! :naughty:

Been working that hand a bunch trying to build it back up. Silly thing acts like there's a short in the wiring somewhere at times! Tried to get my meter on it to trace the short, but I can't figure how to open it up to find the wires!

But I appreciate the good thoughts none the less. As long as I can still pull a trigger I'm good to go! And I had the .30'06 singing about two hours ago at 100m with a real tight group. Yeah, I'm doing just fine. :thumb:

David,

Much like my instruments, I no longer have any classics. The M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield and the '03A3 and the 1950 mfg. Win Mod 70 are all gone! So what I have now is an '09 mfg. Marlin XL7 that I've tricked out with many goodies and it shoots tight! Do all my own reloading, casting, and such. When I was still working at the big place in the country, it was/is over run with wild hogs. Was taking them with short levergun .45-70 at first, but they got smart and later stayed outta range. So the '06 came out and they'd get smacked way out to 500m or better. They couldn't see, smell, or hear me from that distance, but I could drop 'em easy with this Marlin. Wonderful shooter. :thumb:

Somehow I thought you'd have an M-1 - but I hear Marlin makes fine rifles.

Hey Wade, last time I was in Nevada, my buddy brought out this neat little varmint rifle, a .17 hmr . Amazingly accurate out to about 150 yards . I hadn't shot for awhile, but after a couple of rounds I was terrifying a dead pine tree about 100 yards away and later on contributed to a fine rabbit stew . ( My buddy's only a quarter Lakota, but apparently Paiutes know a good rabbit stew, too .:laugh2:)

Yes sir, that's become quite popular here as well. They shoot all kinds of critters with that round now. I just can't get my head around such a small round. I like 'em big!

My step-son and family came down from Montana last month and he brought his little .223 autoloader tinkertoy with him. I was laughing at the lad as he peppered the iron plate I have hung at 100m. Just going "ting, ting, ting." but it never moved. I reached over to my rack where my .45-70 was and loaded one round. When I hit that plate it rocked so much that it took three minutes to stop moving! I just smiled and said "Someday you'll get a man's rifle too." I thought his wife was going to bust a gut!:laugh2: Then she promptly took my '06 and knocked the daylights outta that plate and said the same thing to her husband. That poor lad was mortified! He cleared his piece, put it in the rack, and then went to sit under a tree and pout! :(

To make matters worse, he was later shooting his little Ruger .40S&W pistol and when his wife stepped up to the line with my 4" S&W .44mag and blasted the target and declaired that to be "a REAL handgun", he did the same thing. That tree had a lot of his company that day!:naughty:
