Yeah, that one is a beauty and the price is right. If it plays/sounds as good as it looks you got yourself a keeper.

Side note Sandra bullock is smoking hot, side side note I'm not physically putting out 2k for the guitar, I'm trading a few of my guitars that I have acquired over the years. As I've said before I prefer the 74-84 SGs because of neck placement not just the "vintage" tag. Since I have never had an extra 2k lying around to spend on a guitar, I have been looking for quite some time now for someone to trade my guitars for an SG with to no avail. It seems like everyone wants cash and is "thinning the herd". I have been searching the NY, NJ PA area so I CAN play it and inspect it before making a deal. I even posted on these classifieds a few times. Of all the SGs I looked at, this price seems to be on point for what the guitar is.
The reason I love this site and love to post on here is because I love the knowledge and opinions everyone has which makes me more knowledgeable about my favorite guitar.
Thanks to all

50 cents says the mini toggle is a coil split (50 cents cause I'm broke). Not original, but not outrageous.

I know you mentioned it twice now. But it went right over my head. Now I can see what your talking about the neck placement. My '71 Standard, '02 Special Faded, and '11 50th/Townsend are almost all the same as far as neck placement. I also have a Junior that came as a DIY kit from PGK, and on that one the neck and fretboard is extended one fret further. It looks like the guitar you're looking at, and the other similar examples, have the fretboard eliminating that little space in between the neck pup and bottom of the fretboard that I have been accustomed to seeing all these years.

Reminds me of a limerick...something to the effect of a penny for your thoughts....and then I recall some girl adding $100 to act them out...

The late '70's customs did have spaces between the pickups.
Expect the neck on this guitar to be super skinny compared to any other SG you've played.
Can't say wether the colour is original though, would have to check under the hood to confirm that.
Here's my '78, with gaps between the pickups, it also has no dot above the I in the Gibson logo, as '70's customs had this missing.

Here's another question, should the truss rod cover say custom on it? The one I'm looking at had S-G. I know the trc could be replaced but just wondering.

I have a 74 SG special and the nut measures 1 1/2" and I love it. I don't think it can get much skinnier. Not sure

well, if you can verify the paint like you did, that settles some of the questions I raised.
It makes sense that it's changed color like that. It's about forty years.
I can tell that you want this instrument, so best of luck in the deal.

When it comes down to individual Gibson parts on individual guitars, they don't always
go with what is regarded as Gibson stock. TRC can break and get replaced any number of
times in forty years.

Also, during the 60s and 70s, the working people who made these instruments never would have
imagined how much we obsess about small details of the construction. The people who worked at
the factory were just trying to make production, and sometimes they'd reach for whatever was in
the parts bin. If they could climb in a time machine and fast fwd to now, and read some of our
posts, they'd be stunned for a short time, and then they'd probably laugh out loud... tell us we're
all nuts.

They might be right. But do we care?

I kinda assumed it was related to switching the third pickup.

Ismt it pretty normal to see an extra switch added to these three humbucker jobs for the extra pickup?

That looks like white to me. 40 years of nicotine would give you that yellowing. I say trade away if you like it.

Mine said S-G but it's worn off, you can only see it in certain light now, the White part had gone.

Ya know... I hate stuff like that. TRCs receive a lot of wear depending on how often strings are changed and wiping down the guitar. Silkscreening on a TRC doesn't hold up. Come on Gibson... engrave the lil bastards...

I don't think its worth it, I'd get a new 2017 SG Standard or a used custom shop.

I'm an odd-duck....

If I like it, price doesn't matter....

For the most part I agree. I do have my limits though - my most expensive guitar was 2 grand, and that's probably my own upper limit unless something truly special came along.

In the case of the particular SG we are talking about, $2k is a fair price. Whether it's worth it to the individual is another matter, but I will say that the Norlin era guitars have a certain meau-jeaux that "most" newer guitars don't seem to possess, and even with the changed pickup you still got 2 real live T-Tops...which is a hard recipe to beat.

On the other hand, I prefer new guitars. I might make an exception on this Jimmy Page Double Neck I'm looking at.. .
