Having had a recent cull, i found myself with a little addition to my SG fund so went shopping. As you know by my earlier thread, i found some bargains at Thomann but nothing that really floated my boat.

Then, out of the blue, i came across this bad boy:

Just a couple of quick 'n' dirties as i'm busy decorating and flooring at the moment. A couple of observations though:

1) I've read a lot about these Classics having thick '50's baseball bat necks. Now, as you know i've had a few SG's. The neck on this is about the same thickness as my early Y2K Standard, thicker than my 62RI and thicker than my 61RI. Nowhere NEAR as thick as my '03 Special. I'd say it's a typical Gibson 60's neck; not too thick, not too thin. To be honest, it's REAL comfortable.

2) It looks to be a one piece body but, more than that, the depth of the finish is stunning!

I had to put my own personal poker chip on it but i think mods to this will be minimal. So, i'm back in, not only the SG club, i'm back in the P90 club and for the first time, both are in one package. Couldn't be happier and i really get what every body has been raving about, the Classic is glorious!:dude:

Nice score - I was hunting a few of these before I decided on my Firebird to sate my P90 thirst!

Congrats Ivan :thumb: It's lovely.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!:applause:

Congrats! That's interesting about the necks. So, is this typical 60s meaning slim taper? My SGJ has what I would describe as a fatter slim taper -- same proportions roughly, but a bit thicker. Then my LP is slim taper, though not as slim as some were in that era. It's a bit confusing.

Actually, regarding the neck, i've been taken to task about that. Apparently, the 61RI and 62RI that i used to have had 60's necks! I thought they were very slim, slimmer than 60's neck. This is similar to my Standard so i thought that had a 60's neck. I'll have to withdraw the statement that it has a 60's neck but say that it is not as club-like as others would have us believe!
