Absolutely not an SG and not even a Solid Guitar but it's here to cure my GAS for a jazz box and I think I'm feeling the love. It's a Korean made D'Angelico. Model EXL-1SH. Bought it used. I know these things give the "Original" D'Angelico purists fits but all I know is that it plays like butter up and down the neck, sounds fantastic plugged in or not and was relatively affordable. Actually got it on Wednesday but just got to cleaning her up and putting on new strings.

And the obligatory pictures:

Edit: It's worth pointing out that the nut seen below is bone and it lifted right out after removing the strings. Could see that it had a small dot of glue on it as it should have. A nice thing if the uncontrollable urge to try a chunk of something else for a nut overtakes me, that I can do so without destroying the original. Removing the very glued in corian nut from my SG about required bringing in blasting caps. Had to be removed in chunks.

Here she is in her birthday suit ready for her bath: :naughty:

And what's up with this inlay? Got yer alien landscape in there.

12th fret inlay complete with escaped nose hair.

Even has bling on the back of the headstock.

Korean made or not, this thing is a keeper.

Thanks for the congrats guys.

eS.G, once I finish a microphone kit build project I have in the queue, clips will be forthcoming. The guitar is more than an eyeful. It really sounds great too. Now sit back and be quiet till we get home and stop teasing your sister!!

And Kerry, thanks for being jealous. I feed on jealousy. It's why I posted this. Mmmm, jealousy. Delicious. Thank you. :run:

Man, that's a sweet looking guitar. Korean makes some very fine guitars.

I see the controls are pickguard mounted - but it looks like the pickup is attached to the top. Is that correct?

Yeah, there's nothing cheap about this one that's for sure. There is some quality stuff that comes out of Asia. Mountains of junk too. :squint:

That's correct. It's a fixed humbucker. Not a floater. Not sure what make the humbucker is but I'll be investigating. Here's a couple of more shots from when I had the strings off that may show that part of the guitar better:

EDIT: Note that these shots were just before it got it's big bath. Those frets are all shiny and sparklin' clean now.

Congrats on that one. We saw a guy called Tennessee Jet play at The Old Rock House in St Louis a few months back. He played a D' Angelico like that through a big Fender tube amp. It sounded great clean, and when he turned on the fuzz, it was a machine. probably helps that he was super talented, but I still liked that guitar.
You've picked up a nice one!

Would!
HNGD. She's a fine looking jazz box.

As most here know, the country a guitar is made in doesn't always have anything to do with the quality. Well, not like it used to be. I've picked up junk hanging right next to perfection and the country of origin had little to to with either level of quality or sound.

I'm sure someone out there is thinking "Show us under the pickguard!" and "How about a little tail?" Um, sure well ok, here you go:

That's a really impressively well done guitar - despite of that my impression is that these jazz boxes are to often optically overloaded.

I prefer somewhat less blink blink, but really thoroughly designed proportions instead.

I hear you on the 'bling' factor and this one has got it in spades. Totally guilty on that count. Plays like butter and sounds sweet too despite the glitter though so the two aren't mutually exclusive in this case I'm delighted to report. :thumb:
