NGD-some assembly required

yay! i got my inlay inlaid!
i cut the shape of the inlay on a scroll saw then sanded it even(ish) traced it onto the headstock and with a router, olfa knife , steel straight edge and chisel got the inlay recess cut.
for some reason it wasn't perfect - go figure! so i mixed some epoxy and padauk dust to make a filler. after that was dried and sanded i mixed some more clear epoxy to level the inlay.
i can't wait to see this thing clear coated!

this is great. I've been lurking and ogling this project. It's starting to look like an instrument. The stone work kind of boggles my mind, as i know nothing about it... and had no clue what you were going to come up with when I looked at the rough pieces.

it's a work of art. There's a North Country Band I used to know, called The Yoopers. They've got a song that goes:
"Da best kinda beer ta drink's da beer ya get for free..."
I used to sing that while cutting free wood for my stove. *laughs

So what's da best kinda wood ta make guitars outa den, eh? Da wood ya get for free...
Do you still think it's walnut, or some other hardwood? Whatever it is, the grain's coming up nicely.

the only yoopers song i know is "the second week of deer camp"

my wood working buddies and another luthier i know have all figured the wood is mahogany. honduran mahogany actually.when doing the "tap test" on it it has a nice mid range resonance to it. now i just need money for hardware and stains and lacquers.

Time moves on and some things change and some stay the same. This guitar is still not done but I have some pickups coming this week! Fellow ETSG member "dampsneaker" has offered up his brand new Dirty Fingers pickups to me and they should arrive in a few days! Thanks a ton man!
I know originally I said I was putting P94's in this but the high output pickups were too hard to resist (my first SG had a Bill Lawrence "super humbucker" from an L6S in it). The project changes as circumstances change and opportunities present themselves.
Just need a Tone Pros wrap around bridge, Grover nickel Rotomatics and pots, caps, jack, switch, strap locks and pins and wires! The nut I have in raw moose shin form, I have fret wire and the lacquer and stain... well that's later! Thinking now of leaving it natural although I do like the idea of tobacco sunburst.
