Do something nice for your long suffering wife first... sell some other gear, work
extra if you have to, fix something that's been bothering her, include her in the process
and then go ahead. just a suggestion.

Good idea there, Col. She sold the Epiphone LP uke and the Yamaha guitar I got her (didn't get on with either), she loves her Lanakai uke, so maybe I'll take her to Seoul to a nice uke shop and get her to choose one. She's also looking for a pickup to go into the soundbox of her Lanakai uke, but I don't know much about that...

Far far more importantly... :) ...I'm not having much luck finding these lefthooker Gibsons. On the upside, I just told the wife I'm getting one (by selling pedals and other gear to make up most of the money) and she accepts that because she loves Gibsons every since she saw a friend's LP Custom. So that's good.

Just a bit more info on these:

gibson-sg-standard-p90-left-handed-guitar.jpg

  • Sold Mahogany body with gloss nitro finish
  • Mahogany neck with comfortable, rounded profile
  • Baked Maple fingerboard with acrylic trapezoid inlays
  • Pair of authentic P-90 single-coil pickups in the neck and bridge
  • Vintage-style TonePros™ tuners with 16:1 tuning ratio

http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Standard-P-90.aspx

I think it's basically the same as the SG classic P90 from a couple of years ago (2011)?

9 minutes in on this video:

Doing more searching, the black guitar I found might be a leftover/unsold 2012 model? Still nice though.

Waking up with a lady who loves Gibsons is more than priceless. *grins

So if you're thinking about putting a pickup into an acoustic instrument... consider the L.R. Baggs Lyric.
I'll bet they make one for the Uke. Dunno if they ship where you are, but include her in this process
also, and let her look at them. I have two of them in guitars, and they are the best thing I've heard.

http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=L.+R.+Baggs+Lyric+++uke&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

What this is, it's an acoustic microphone that mounts under the bridge, so it picks up the acoustic sound
of your instrument and makes it louder. I love the sound of it in my guitars. The first one I installed was in
my old 1975 Mossman, which had a combination of older-tech pickups, one under the bridge, and one near
the sound hole. This thing replaced all that, and my luthier made a new bridge saddle with no piezo strip
between it and the wood, and restored my guitar's acoustic tone! It cost me some money to have this work
done, but it was SO worth it. Turning my trusty old road companion back into an acoustic instrument gave
it a whole new sound. I'd had that durn piezo in there so long, I'd forgotten how good the guitar sounded
without it. The Baggs lyric might will likely need professional installation, but I'm very happy with mine.
(I can't imagine trying to get MY big hairy paws inside a ukelele...) *laughs

Oh and you may be right about the lefties you saw being unsold 2012 instruments. The '70s tribute Firebird certainly is. I bought a 2012 SG special '70s tribute which has the same baked maple fretboard and mini-humbuckers.
These were only made for one year and did NOT sell well, and I bought mine when marked down under $600. Closed minded guitarists rejected the 'baked maple' fretboard almost as severely as they did the 2015 'innovations." But that means nothing, as usual. My 2012 is an excellent guitar, and I've left it mostly stock and had no trouble and lots of great music. I actually love the look and feel of the maple. I oiled it and it darkened up beautifully, it's hard and fast, a fine material IMHO. The same for the Mini-hums. Gibson is offering those again for 2016.
Good luck in your quest.

Would you lot pay $670 for this?

By the time I get that 2012 p90 standard over to me, it's gonna be $1500 with taxes and transport (unless I can find a way of getting around some taxes and bringing the transportation cost down... :)); even if the shop get back to me which they haven't yet... I know this 70s tribute is not the all singing and dancing model above, but it might be a go-er for a reasonable price?

The '70s tribute is a very nice guitar and I think it would be right up your alley with those Dirty Fingers

And yes if I was a lefty and I had $670 in my pocket I would definitely get it

So, I still really like that P90 standard for under $1000, but if the shop don't get back to me then that 70s tribute is a good option. I asked on a new thread, but maybe I should ask here too:

That Tribute doesn't have a case, but the shop sells Epi cases (I'm pretty sure Epi cases work for right and left handed SGs); has anybody put their Gibson SG into an Epi SG case? Does it fit?

Edit to add: I can get a 50s tribute or 70s tribute at about the same price; any thoughts or preferences?

These Dirty Fingers do sound great (but then so do P90s).

Edit to add:

If the shop gets back to me, then this guitar below (including the hardcase) is only $150 more than the tribute with an Epi case, so it's gonna be hard not to go for the standard with P90s.

I have kept every sg I've owned in the same skb hard case. Works well enough.

^ Thanks, Madmatt - it's only that I think I've read that some cases and some SGs don't get on?

If the cut outs for the horns arnt shaped right it can be a problem. I believe that they have changed slightly at times, all my sg are post 2010 manufacture, and they fit in the case the same. I can't speak to how vintage models would fit.

I just got an email back from one US company called MusicZoo. It reads:

Gibson currently has a SG Standard left handed available with P-90’s.
They also have the 50’s Tribute SG (which was equipped) available in Heritage Cherry, Vintage Sunburst, and Ebony. Let me know if you might be interested in any of these!

Then this link: http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/13236

Basically, the link has the P90 SG standard lefthanded for $849 including Gibson case. Can this be right? It sounds far too cheap! I've sent an email back saying if he has one in stock I'll take it...

Here's a picture and the spec:

The Gibson SG has been the "go-to" guitar for legendary guitarists for decades, including luminaries like Frank Zappa, Pete Townshend, Angus Young and Derek Trucks. With the SG Standard P-90, the folks at Gibson have taken the classic SG body design and dropped in a pair of P-90 Single Coil pickups. The result is a hotter, more raw sound that has a snappy high end great for soloing or even shimmering, strummed chords. Featuring a 60's style pickguard and a classic Tune-O-Matic bridge, the SG Standard P-90 has equal parts vintage vibe and modern tone.
  • Ebony Finish
  • Mahogany Body
  • Mahogany Neck with rounded profile
  • Torrified Maple Fretboard
  • 24 - 3/4" Scale Length
  • 1-11/16” Nut Width
  • 22 Medium Jumbo Frets
  • P-90 Single Coil Neck and Bridge Pickups
  • Two Volume and Two Tone Controls
  • 3-Pickup Selector Switch
  • Tune-O-Matic Bridge and Stopbar Tailpiece
  • Vintage-Style Keystone Tuners
  • Corian Nut

It's the same SG standard P90 as on the Gibson page.

He just emailed me back saying it was at Gibson, and he'd have it sent out to him then onto me. Only one colour: black. I said I'd take it send me the invoice.

Anybody heard of this company or done business with them?

You lot are naughty peoples who are likely to cause trouble... I really do NOT have the money, so I should NOT justify it, but I could do it.

Seeing that lovely 2016 SG std P90, I went looking on the web expecting nothing (no lefthooking Gibbos in 2015), and I found these. I've sent them off an email so I hope that: 1) they are no longer available; 2) they won't deliver to Korea or the UK.

Perhaps even better value as it includes a hardcase:

I'd prefer cherry or naturalburst in an ideal world, but this isn't an ideal world.[/Quote

I think the neck is on the wrong side of the guitar. Looks unplayable like that. All jokes aside I love them both......a lot!
