Hello, basically because of limited space I have to store my 2020 SG upright in it’s Gibson supplied gig bag, and although the bag is cushioned all around the strap button on the bottom of the body has made an indent that almost reaches the vinyl outer covering. So I was thinking if it would be advisable to remove it, I know Les Paul owners are advised to do similar because of the way the button can apparently be Pushed into the body though I’m aware of the SG body being a solid slab(s) I’d appreciate anyones input. Thank you. G.

It seems impractical to remove the strap button - unless you never use a strap.

I’d say adding some sort of padding or getting a better gig bag makes more sense.

Anyway, I wouldn’t remove it myself…

agreed... I'd leave it on.
you can get a piece of foam to add extra padding, or get really fancy and glue (or sew) a patch of leather where the indent is. Cut the back pocket from a pair of jeans and sew it or glue it into the bag where the indent is.

IMHO the SG is a guitar that was designed to be played standing up, so the strap (AND THE BALANCE)
is important.
Also, as a singer I can't breathe right if I'm sitting down, so I've never actually considered playing
seated, except under special circumstances.

Gibson gig bags are ok, and yours ought to serve you well. But when ever you have the space to keep one,
I'd suggest the best hard case you can find/afford for your Gibson. Look at SKB-61 case, it's expensive but
protects your SG very well. And sometimes they go onside. Also, as said above, you have a lot of choices
for gig bags, and the best ones are excellent.

I would not remove it if it were mine.

Who advises Les Paul owners to do this? Just curious as I’ve never heard of this before. Seems really strange.

Sell it and you won’t have to worry about it, make sure to charge extra for any upgrades you have made.

list price + 120% is a good starting point.
