Last night the wife and I were talking about the new house we just bought, and about the upcoming sale of the apartment we currently live in.

Suddenly, right out of the blue, she said: "You know, there is space outside the house for adding an extra room if we want to. We could build a guest room that can be a dedicated music room for your guitar stuff."

Naturally, I was pleasantly surprised. We started talking about my guitars, and I told her I was thinking about selling my Danelectro to replace it with an SG for slide playing (I use the Dano for slide at home, but don't find a proper use for it with the band, so it is kind of redundant). Again, she had a surprise in store: "Why don't we keep it and see if one of the boys want to start learning guitar on it? It is the perfect size for a kid." (It's 3/4 scale.)

"Ok, but then I want to get another SG, anyway", I said. "Sure, that's ok," was her only answer.

What can I say? She's a keeper, for sure.

So, I have started looking for used SGs. I have found a very nice SG Special Faded Worn Brown (don't know the year, but I have asked the seller) which has had the 490s swapped for Seymour Duncan 59s. The price is good for being in Norway, it is hardly played at all, and it come with a case. Any special reason why this should not be a nice guitar? It might be possible for me to try it in a couple of days, but I'm not sure.

Well man, thats great, you are lucky, your other half loves you for sure.. So, a new SG waits for you to go grab her, and store her in the new built music room, and the daneletro stays home!!!

Just buy something really really nice for your wive, she deserves it

I can't think of any reason that an SG special faded brown would not be an excellent guitar
unless it was damaged or warped, or defaced by ugly stickers or carvings.

Especially with the SD 59s, those are regarded highly by many players.
My faded brown SG is my favorite guitar, you very likely already know this. *grins
I seem to say it every time I'm on this site.

And congratulations on being married to a woman who considers your musical needs
and desires. That itself is beyond price. She should receive unexpected delights
from unusual sources, so she feels appreciated. Many henpecked musicians would
envy this match. *laughs ...I wish you well in your new home.

I too am a lucky man when it comes to his spouse...my wife is very supportive of my guitar fetish..Alot of the grief comes when you don't listen to what they are saying, or they think that you don't. I always talk to her about guitar stuff i want to do..I bought three things for my pedal board today but talked with her first before i did it...easier to keep the peace if you always include them.... good to hear you got a keeper there.. :)

Lucky man Gahr. Buy the faded (killer guitars) and write your wife a lovely song so you can play it to her on your new purchase. Win, win, win!

Many years ago I hadn't picked up a guitar for about 15 years. My wife told me to go out and buy an acoustic so I could play songs for my kids. 6 guitars for me and 4 for my kids later(plus amps, mics, recording equipment and stage lighting) I bet she wished she kept her thought to herself :rofl::rofl:

Yep, I'm a lucky man. The extension to the house won't happen in a few years, but the simple fact that she is okay with it at all is a huge win in itself!

I just emailed the guy who is selling the faded brown. I hope he gets back to me quickly.

I am gonna kill myself, you Norwegians make me sick! :D

Just today, the missus told me that my playing is so crap that I don't need 3 guitars, one would be enough. I told her I was improving, and she told me I'm crap and always will be. I told her it was important for folks to have dreams and nobody should be cruel enough to take away their dreams, she said I could dream about playing the guitar well, but it would only ever be a dream... Hmmm.

Gahr, you are a lucky guy, good on ya. Your wife is clearly a smart and kind lady.

An SG faded with 59s would be amazing, I'm sure. If you get to try it for a couple of days then I bet you don't give it back! :dude:

I know it's your favorite guitar. The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the picture on the website where it is up for sale was , hey, that guitar is just like Col Mustards!

Don't lose your dream, Betty!

I think my wife is just really happy I quit home brewing when I got the job as a professional brewer. Our guest room used to be completely filled with things for my home brewery; two big fridges for fermentation and serving, shelves packed with fermentors and pots for the brew setup, boxes and bags full of different malts. Now, all that's left is a tiny fridge for bottles of beer and my 120+ book on beer and brewing. The Vox AC4 and the three guitars I keep at home don't even seem to register with her. The room now functions as a TV room and a proper guest room. I also think she realizes I would wither and die a bitter man if I couldn't keep at least one hobby...

What you're saying is, Gahr: I should become a home brewer! I like that idea; I'll go online and order my first stout kit right now!

Yeah, we need hobbies.

Go ahead, Betty. Do it! I you do things the right way, you'll make nice beer without too much effort. Process is pretty important in brewing, but it will be beer anyway. Home brewing is a fantastic hobby. Just think of it; At the end of the day, there's beer!

^ the wife is going home on March 4th to look after her mother for a month or two, so it's a possibility. I wonder if I'll manage to blow up the apartment block?

Her sister is married to an Australian actually. From Beechworth, Victoria.
God-damn Mexicans....

I'm from New South Wales...the state above Victoria.

Heres' my little useless fact of the day....Beechworth is famous for...220px-Ned_Kelly_in_1880 (1).png ned 2.jpg ned_01.jpg

Beechworth is Kelly country, referring to Ned Kelly, our most notorious bushranger...who, if you ask most fair-dinkum Aussies (yes, fair-dinkum is an actual Aussie colloquialism, meaning dead-set, genuine or true) he is an absolute legend of Australian folklore.
Some of Ol' Neds' most famous heists were around the Beechworth area, spanning up to NSW and his last stand was in Glenrowan, where he wore a suit of armour made from plough blades. The bullets from the many constabulary send to capture him just bounced off his armour and the shootout lasted around 8 hours, until they worked out that to take him down they had to shoot out his legs.
Ned made the beard fashionable well before hipsters came along...
They hanged the poor ol' bastard in 1880...RIP Neddy ol' fella...you bloody legend.:D

Ned Kelly is a fascinating character. I read Peter Carey's excellent novel "The True Story of the Kelly Gang" a few years back. A very cool read.

That's the problem with Victorians. Too busy trying to convince each other they're the Centre of the universe to figure out to shoot the bloke's legs, where there is no protection!!!
